I want to format my external USB HD (500GB Seagate) to FAT 32 so I can plug it into my Xbox and use it to store and access media files (pics, music, vids) between the console and my laptop. Can I just reformat the whole 500GB drive or do I have to partition it. can I format 200GB FAT32 and keep 300GB NTSB? Any help is appreciated.

You have to partition it before you format it.

You can create one large 500GB partition or 2 separate partitions.

Sorry if we cant post links i dont know all the rules yet.

Format your drive to FAT32 ther is a windows app that does that it. Formats up to 1TB HDD I currently have 2 1TB HDDs one for my XBOX and one for me PS3

I would not worry about Chopping your HDD in half for NTFS unless you plan on using that partition for files bigger then 4GB
