If my PSU has molex power only, instead of buying a molex-sata adapter I'm wondering if I can instead splice an extra modular sata power cable I have to the molex cables. I've noticed the sata power cables have a fifth orange cable I presume I don't use. What's throwing me is the order of wires in molex is yellow, black, black, red. While the order of cables in a sata power cable is yellow, black, red, black.

Will my 2 TB western green ead work with a molex/sata power adapter? My PSU has only molex and my understanding is Molex/sata adapter connector provide 12V and 5V power lines, but not 3.3V required by some SATA drives.

go matching colors as in yellow to yellow(12v), red to red(5v) & black to black(gnd). orange would be 3.3v. my 250gig sata3 drive has no problem with adapter.
