I have an old thinkpad T23 laptop that decided it wouldnt start yesterday.Got error 0271 which when i found out what this was ,i changed the COMS battery but the laptop still wont let me access the bios to set the time/date.
For some unearthly reason it has a icon of a lock on it (top left hand corner of screen)and says it requires a password.
I have looked in original manual but it mentions nothing of a bios/motherboard password.
Any ideas what this password would be ?????It was bought from new and nobody here has put a password on it????
    Cheers.

According to the menu, IBM can reset the bios password. This probably means that there are pins for a jumper somewhere on the mainboard...I would open up all the hdd/ram/etc access pannels and look around. They might also be hidden somewhere where you must dissassemble the laptop to jumper them...but usualy they are under the same cover as the ram.
