hi all. i need to know the name of this cable please. it connects my front 2 usb and mic+earphones to the internal usb connector. the end that plugs into the usb mic earphones (if i remember correctly) is a 7 pin connector, the other end that connects to the internal usb is 7 individual connectors. now the reason i want to know is because the front sockets dont work and i think it could be the cable. any help appreciated.

The front USB and Audio should be separate cables, check if there's anything written on the connectors at either end, or on the cable itself.

Hmm interesting, you're sure the connector you're looking at is for the USB/Audio? 7 pins sounds more like power switch/reset switch/hard disk LED perhaps. Can you take a photo of the connector?

Once you supply the power and ground, you need only 2 wires per USB; so a 6-wire cable can do a pair of USBs Still, I would say that 8 wires is more likely that 6 or 7. I am guess there are some other cables for the audio.

Upload your picture to Imageshack then copy the 'forum link' from the upload page and just paste it in here, don't worry about [ url] tags or anything like that.

...Photobucket works too; just copy the link into your post.

From the sounds of it, you might be better off getting a few of the below link.

    these are the cables.

the first is the one that connects to the usb earphones+mic socket
    [IMG]

the next is the pinned connection, not very clear but best i could do without removing it altogether.

the last is the connection to usb on MB. still not very clear but it is 7 individual connections on an 8 pin socket.

doubt it is the cable that is causing the problem. what front sockets are not working, usb, speaker/mic jacks or both? were they working before as usually is controlled from the bios?

the cable is not causing the problem when you think about. you don't loose both usb ports at the same time unless you break the ports themselves. it is either a setting issue in the bios or a problem in the motherboard. the same goes for the audio ports.

Checking the ports is easy...stick in a usb drive with an LED in it and wiggle it around...if the LED turns on once in a while, you know it is the port.

Also go into the bios and make sure nothing is disabled.

check in the bios to make certain the front audio sockets are enabled as some boards have it they can be disabled. what is the model# of your asrock board so can out the manual?
