while defragging usb iomega (seagate hdd) accidentaly shut down computer while defrag was running. Now on booting pc the external usb hdd cannot be found and accessed. Please reply to edited by ddp
moved to correct forum due to blindness as not a usenet newsgroups issue. no email posting as per forum rules, post edited. is it seen by the bios? have you tried different usb ports? have you checked in disk management to see if there or not? what windows?
oops.. it's one of these software emulated big drives made out of two smaller ones.. I smell a brick. try pulling the drives out of it and seeing if they still id properly plugged into an ide or sata port.
Windows xp service pack2--No. It is not seen in disk management. Tried different usb ports and swapped cables. Has its own power brick. The abnormal interrupted defrag seems to have caused the problem. Need to recover the data. Other usb drives plugged in same port have no problem. Also I opened the case. It is a seagate drive with attached card( controller with usb socket) Nothing loose.
Tried that, it is a seagate drive with attached card( controller) with a usb socket. 500gb. Card is fixed to drive with screws, and a small soldered cable runs to underside of drive. The interrupted defrag seems to have caused the drive to become iaccessable.
Tried. Still fails to appear in disk management. Spins up ok. Swapped ports, power brick and cable. Still fails. Will contact iomega and try to RMA.
I did remove it from the box, the controller card with usb port is fixed with 4 screws and soldered to drive internal connections, also a little ribbon cable is soldered to drive internally. The card cannot be separated from drive and there are no ide ports. It looks like the seagate drive has been customized for the box. I will try to get an RMA if I can find the receipt and return it. Too bad my data and photographs will all be lost.
2.5" or 3.5" hard drive? can you take some pictures of it especially where cable connects to hard drive as have a problem with it being soldered to drive?
I highly doubt they soldered anything (iomega does not put that much effort into their products)...I bet if you took those 4 screws out, it would all come apart very easily. You sure it isn't a SATA drive?
