    Hi

I have a Dell Dimension 3100 (old I know) and it has numerous USB ports. I have a problem in that some of the USB ports are non responsive. No matter what I plug in to them, nothing happens.

I have 4 ports in the back of my PC tower (which all seem to be working fine), 2 ports in the front of the tower (again, seem to work ok), but there are 4 in my monitor which do not respond at all. AS well as this, I have a card reader (SD, etc) which again is unresponsive in the front of my PC tower. Here is a list of the USB devices from the device manager:

    Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller 2658
    Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller 2659
    Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller 265A
    Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB Universal Host Controller 265B
    Intel(R) 82801FB/FBM USB2 Universal Host Controller 265C
    USB Composite Device

    USB Mass Storage Device

    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub
    USB Root Hub

I dont know anything about these types of things so please advise where you can.

    Thanks
    Bradders

if monitor has 4 usb ports then they have to be connected to at least 1 of the back of tower usb ports. how many cables from monitor to back of computer? possible card reader not connected inside of tower so open the side panel of tower to check for the cable from card reader to see were it goes to. any unknown devices or exclamation marks in device manager?
