Hi. The XP SoundMAX driver I have doesn't want to install in Vista, and I don't know where exactly in AIDA32 to look for pointers about where to search for the audio driver I need. Can somebody help out, please? Thank you in advance.
Thank you very much, but there is a problem with that webpage. No matter what I want to download, it only forces me to save DriverRobot.exe. (Supposedly it will tell me automatically what to download.) But I don't want drivers for this computer; and the computer that needs this driver is not connected to the Internet...
hi download the newest version of PCwizard http://www.cpuid.com/pcwizard.php which will give you the motherboard model etc. then we can take it from there if it should be an Asus mobo then you can find it from http://support.asus.com/download/download.aspx?SLanguage=en-us
Hi. Thanks for the reply. It is a P4P800-MX, Rev. 1.xx, by ASUSTek Computer Inc. I eventually found some drivers, and the swdsm.sys (or something) that it wants in order to install on Vista, but then it says that it doesn't support the hardware. I really have no idea what to do now. P.S. In 'Device Manager', there is a "Multimedia Audio Controller" with a yellow question mark, by the way. That's the one that needs the driver, right?
hi your mobo was produced in 2004. i'm surprised that it has vista on it asus doesn't list any audio drivers for vista on that board. if it was installed by who ever built the pc. it should have all the drivers on the chipset disc that came with it. it wouldn't because your audio chip is an AC97 (ADI AD1888 AC97) so i would download and run http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?ProductID=2773&DwnldID=13365&lang=eng and see what happens yes.
Hi again. Thank you for the package, Gurnard. However, if I run the 'Setup' file from the main folder that is unpacked by the installer, it still doesn't work. (I get the same message that the hardware is not supported, like before.) But the "readme" file has a much more complicated process described inside, which I didn't follow: Under "DIRECTORY STRUCTURE", it says I should put a "'WinXP' driver package" into the X86 folder, and so on. (There's some "WRAPPER USAGE" instructions, too.) But, to begin with, I have no idea where I'm supposed to get this "'WinXP' driver package"; I don't think it's in the installer. The guy who wrote the 'readme.txt' did not make it very clear for me, what I have to do. Oh, and yeah, you were right; I got the computer in 2004. And it had XP installed, naturally. I'm still running this OS, but I was hoping to try dual-boot-ing it with Vista for a while, in order to compare them side-by-side. (I was also thinking about trying Windows 7, but I don't have 1 GB of RAM.) Talk to you later, I hope. Thanks again.
hi i think you are flogging a dead donkey with vista on your old pc i'll save you the heartache. don't bother, i've replaced more vista with xp pro than i care to count. try 7 by all means. i'll wait another 12mths first but then i'm an old stick in the mud never had the need or the inclination to dual boot, or to see the reason why. will leave that up to you and others to play with. (and in my capacity as chief lurker read about all the probs and remedies you all come up with) sorry i couldn't help further, happy burning
I never get these problems except with dell.. it's an ac97 variant.. shouldn't need a fista specific driver not that I ever have these problems myself.. but my resource is usually http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=73351&page=1 for nonsense windoze driver problems. this is the driver I found to work on these asus boards. http://vip.asus.com/forum/view.aspx...ard_id=14&model=P2-PH1&page=1&SLanguage=en-us But if you really want to get it right (and my experience with fista is like G.. removing it and upgrading to something that works) http://www.soundcard-drivers.com/
Keep the last link.. every driver known for every piece of hardware ever made.. even aztech isa cards and the antique yamaha opl based cards.. it's the only place you need.. Makes me look like a genius does that site.. of course I use killbill or sabayon to ID the actual hardware properly first.. right down to the specific revision.
I would, but if the motherboard can't handle Vista, how can it handle 7? I'm sure the audio won't work with 7, either. Vista and 7 even look alike, and we all know what bastards the Windows creators are. Maybe when I feel like buying a new PC, I'll play around with Vista and 7, then.
