    Hi guys

My 1tb WD Hard Drive has just died !!

First noticed when booting up XP PC & PC locked just before login screen - once HD unplugged PC continued to boot as usual.

If i reconnect HD, then windows explorer does not recognise .... also whilst connected, the PC will not allow me to view disk management or device manager ?? Once I disconnect then I can view OK

Light is on on the rear of HD & disk appears to be spinning inside.

Any ideas if the HD is deceased - it's only just over a year old & gonna cry if I have lost all data.

I have a sata dock - is it worth dismantling & trying with this ?

    Thanks
    Saint

HDD is certainly not healthy, but you could try it in the dock initially. Does the SATA dock use USB to connect to the PC? You may also want to try hooking it up as a secondary drive internally.

There are a lot of threads in this forum on HDDs, perhaps skim some of those too.
