I went into my router's menu to manually change the rules for some ports, and I had to select the computer names (- you know).

So, in the drop-down menu, next to the names I recognize, I saw some other weird computer names, such as RobsIphone and LiamsLaptop, or something like that. There were two of them.

Now, I've never owned an iPhone, and I don't currently have a laptop. So, what could these be?

Could somebody from the building be mooching an Internet connection off mine? And how can I block him? (The router is capable of wireless connections, but I've never set up that feature...)

just disable the wireless, if you cant do that. then block the MAC address. as always RTFM to figure out how to do those two things.

    DXR88, it is R.T.F.M.D. http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_jump.cfm/116407/611699

jeanpave, if antenna(s) are external then unscrew it\them from router & tape to router side or top so don't loose the as that is what i did on mine as pain in the butt typing my encryption code on customers laptops i was working on in same room as wireless router.

    Thank you very much, DXR88.

    All done, I think.

Ddp: Thank you very much for the suggestion with the antennas. I'm a little worried about not messing up the router (since I am not very experienced in these matters), though, but I will do it if I see those connections again or if the wireless capability suddenly becomes active again.

you won't mess up the router by removing the antenna(s).

Is there a trick that you do there, and that you might be interested to share with us?

But, you know, I wouldn't mind the mooching if I had an unlimited connection. But with a download cap...

Do you mean they would come right off, if I pull them? 'Cause I'm kind of afraid of opening up the router.

Ddp: I checked and, yeah, I can unscrew them. Thank you very much for the tip.

I think the problem is solved. I don't see those computer IDs anymore.

    Thanks again very much, guys!
