After wiping my computer a while ago one of my connections says "Limited or no connectivity" even though the internet worked fine. Recently every now and again a page wont load but it will be fine if I refresh. That would be fine but its really noticeable when I play Xbox live cause I keep getting kicked from games. The connection with limited or no connectivity is to my modem but I have tried re-installing drivers and have checked cables, I have also tried releasing and renewing my IP address. When renewing my IP address it says it cant renew connection 5 which I think is the modem connection. Could anyone help me out please?

    Thanks a lot

Have you tried resetting your modem and wipping all config and restarting from scratch. I have done that before and it seemed to have fixed the same problem I was having.
Also I suggest you check you lan card as it might be dead as well.

Arghh this is so frustrating, I was sure I done this but I took out the power lead for my modem then plugged it back in and the message went away. But then the internet wasnt working at all, I tried messing about with setting up the router which I dont know how to setup at all really to be honest. Now the internets back but the other "Local Area Connection" has the message "Limited or no connectivity". Any ideas what is wrong?

    Thanks again

are you trying to run 2 wired connections from the one pc to your router? One may be an old dialup modem .. whichever one you aren't using just disable it..

Its just the one wired connection from my pc to my router although I do have a wired cable running to my xbox. The device names of both the "Local area connections" are "Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC" (The one with limited connectivity) and "USB Cable modem (NDIS5)".

    Thanks

if you are connected to the router via ethernet cable then why are you connected to the modem vai usb cable? why not connect the xbox directly to router instead of thru pc?

Arghh now its not working at all again, this is sooo annoying! The way it is connected is the modem is connected via usb to the computer and via ethernet cable to the router. The pc and the xbox are connected to the router and it used to work fine, i just cant see whats up.

EDIT: I just noticed that there is a light on for 'bridge' on the router and its never been on and i havent bridged connections, i made sure the switch on the bottom wasnt on bridge. I cant even open the settings with the default address to change anything.

    Thanks

you have it wired up wrong. from modem to router to pc & xbox with ethernet cables, no usb cable needed. my modem is in the basement so it is connected to a router also in the basement. 1 ethernet cable comes from the router to my mother's office on the 1st floor. a 2nd cable comes from the router upto my computer room on the 2nd floor connecting to a wireless router. from that wireless router is an ethernet cable to my main computer. 1 other cable comes from that wireless router to a customer's computer i might be working on at the time. customers' laptops or mine connects wireless to that router.

Thanks again for the reply, I took out the usb cable so its as you described. I now have one local area connection that has limited or no connectivity and the internet doesnt work. For some reason tho the 'bridge' light is showing on the router instead of wireless, could that have something to do with it?

    Thanks

disconnect both the power & coax\dsl cable from the modem. count to 20 then reconnect the power & coax\dsl cable in that order. might have to restart windows too.

I tried that and still get the limited or no connectivity, the router has never been on that bridge mode though which seems odd.

EDIT: The internet started working a while later but now i cant connect to my wifi and i cant connect to xbox live. Has this got something to do with the bridge connection? Nothing comes up when I type in the ip for network configuration

    Thanks again
