Hey guys I have a P6T deluxe mobo, i7 CPU...now about 4-5 months ago..my computer started behaving weirdly. Slowing down, freezing etc until it go to the point when I turned it on. All it would say is "please select proper boot device and restart" so i thought it was the HDD...got that replaced...still the same thing would pop up. I took it back to the place where I got it built and they said it was set to RAID and they fixed the settings...anyways that started happening again. So I decided to research it a bit. I saw one suggestion, it said to take the CMOS battery out for 90 secs and put it back in. That solved the problem. Until now...it happens every day and the battery trick isn't working always. Sometimes it does and the comp works normally other times it takes it 10-15 min to boot up, then just crash when I log in....right now..I didn't even put the battery back in. So I don't know how anything even booted up.... :S Anyone got any suggestions...warranty just ran out... Thank you in advance
You would buy a quality mainboard from a quality brand...and you would then RMA the mainboard you have, and sell the replacement on ebay.
sounds like a bad mobo, namely a problem in saving the settings so it'd be around the cmos battery most likely. if not the cmos battery itself, so yeah just rma the motherboard, and request better qc. *sigh* asus has really let themselves slip lately.(pretty sure they're the only ones making p6t series mobos. however as for being a bad mobo i can't say that's the case p6's are pretty nice, good architecture and quality parts...but asus quality control is really fail last couple years.)
rma is return manufacturer authorization. return it to place you bought it from as should have about 1yr warranty on it.
try new sata cable. try different sata connectors on motherboard as 1 might be bad. try a pci or pci\e sata controller card. get a new motherboard. try a different sata hd to see if still have problem because if do then new controller card or new motherboard.
Hi Problem is down to your bios settings.... Don't have the manual for your board but enter the bios by pressing F2 as you turn the system on. Once inside look for a setting related to hard drives and make sure there set to AHCI mode. Then make sure your primary drive is set as the first boot device in the boot device order screen. You also said the system was only 4 months old; the parts should still be under manufacturer warranty, even if the crummy scumbags you bought the system from refuse to back their terrible component choices. Call up Asus, tell them your board is dead, and that you want a new one.
Well for the system to ask for the correct boot device would suggest to me that the correct hard drive for booting windows isn't even in the boot configuration list. I had this problem when i first installed windows with my Asus P7P55D-E. It initially detected the drive and allowed me to install windows. Then when it came time to start i found the same error message. Looked in the Bios / Boot Config and found the drive i had just installed windows onto wasn't there ? Changed the drive seeting from RAID to AHCI and then had to go back to boot config and move the drive to the top of the list. Only had this on Asus boards. But they are the best. User457
Thank you for making it so clear that you have no idea what you are talking about...Asus makes some of the worst parts around, and a single drive should not be set to RAID anyhow!
Really I would like you to back up both of those remarks. Raid can be on by default my friend and it usually is. As for your comments about Asus.... They make some of the Best Boards. Please prove this to be wrong. What do you use ? User457

Sorry guys been away for a few days. The first time this happen and I took it back they said it was set to raid, and when it does breakdown the HDD doesn't come up on the list user457 was talking about. I'll check out the settings tonight and get back to you guys. Since I took the CMOS battery out its been running fine :S...maybe it was down to the battery. I dunno. I'll buy a new one and see if that helps. Thanks again
is not the battery causing the problem but a setting that has been put back to default when battery was removed. put the battery back in.
If RAID was the default, then how would removing the battery fix anything? Wouldn't that just make it default to...hmmm...maybe to the default? Thank you again for proving your own ignorance...again.
