Win 7 won't boot with 8 Gigs of Ram

    I examined your manual and I don't find any instructions to enter the BIOS either. Call HP and if you speak Hindi you might get an answer. HP's poor documentation and tech help has caused me to refrain from buying their products. Opening the bios on some machines is a little tricky as the key (Del,F2,F10,F12 or whatever) must be pressed at the exact right moment during the post boot procedure. Several key presses after the machine is turned on is sometimes necessary.

    use the vista 64bit as that is what win7 is based on.

    not a restore point but a backup copy of current bios version if older then new bios version.

    1st see if current version is the lates version number as listed on hp site.

    You probably do not need to update your Bios. The instructions you posted
    at http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/docu...product=3686665 are for BIOS update

    Question?

    Have you been able to get into the BIO's yet?

    This should not be all that complicated. Just open the Bios and change the voltage to 1.8v. Have you tried calling HP yet to find out what keystroke opens the Bios and when to press it. HP usually has a useless flash screen with the HP logo and no instructions. The key press must happen before or during this logo display. Most Mobos use the DEL key but HP might be different. Several key presses cant hurt.

    usually f1, f2 or f10 to get into bios setup, the user manual will tell you that.

    I can get into the BIOS. But it doesn't allow me to make any changes to the memory. Unless there is some other hidden place to make these changes.

    Sometimes the voltage settings are not revealed on the top of the BIOS screen and it is necessary to press the down arrow key to reveal options at the bottom of the list. Also sometimes a selection will take you to a subordinate screen. I am convinced they are there somewhere. All machines I have had experience with have had voltage options for memory for many years now.

    I just looked at my AWARD Bios to see where the DDR3 voltage was listed

    I found under Motheboard Intelligent Tweaker (MIT)
    System Voltage - Change to manual
    DRAM voltage and I could change the setting from "Normal" to 1.8v

    namebrand computers like dell & hp might not have that ability to change voltages just as some of them don't allow overclocking of cpu's.
