Somehow Vista got corrupted on my laptop so I installed Windows 7 but now I am missing drivers and my computer isn't reading some of my hardware...I believe I got the sound card and video card working but I am having a problem with the touchpad. The scroll feature is no longer working on the touchpad. I went to a manufacturer website but that driver didn't work for me and I chose the one for the operating system i have. Any ideas?

Windows 7 almost always works perfectly with windows vista drivers...just make sure to use vista64 drivers with win7x64, and vista32 drivers with win7x86. If the autoinstaller refuses to start, you can usualy extract the driver package using 7-zip, and then do a manual driver install. Also, there are two "manufacturer"s for most parts in a laptop...the laptop maker is one, the component maker is the other. Typicaly the component maker (for instance, nVidia) will have more updated drivers.

Without knowing what model (or even what brand) your computer is, this is all the information I can give you.

I got pretty much everything up and running. I had a friend come over and he also suggested the Vista 64 drivers, (I hadn't been online to check this thread), and it worked for the most part. There was something called Base System Device which didn't work at first and it said no drivers could be found but apparently I had to download and reinstall the chipset drivers and as far as the touchpad the vista64 drivers worked but I previously downloaded the win7x64 driver for it from Synaptics and it didn't work even though people say they are the same. Anyway everything seems fine except for a non crucial issue with the display settings being different than before.
