    Hi All,

on my current laptop I have 3 USB ports and a 4 port USB hub giving me a total of 6 USB ports but I have 1 USB mouse, 1 USB keyboard, 2 external USB hard drives, 1 Bose Companion USB sound system, 1 external USB DVD/RW drive, 1 USB cable for my iPhone, 1 USB bluetooth dongle, 1 USB webcam, I think you can see where this is going so my problem is that I have to keep on unplugging USB hardware to put something else in and I don't want to keep buying more USB hubs to support all of them so I want to go as wireless as possible but all the wireless things that I searched for so far have to have a USB receiver which defeats the object in my case, Yes there would be far less cables but I would still need lots of USB ports for all the wireless things like mouse, keyboard, etc.

I have a deceased Acer Aspire RC900 that has a wireless keyboard and mouse which would help my situation a little so I searched online for the manual and the receiver for this is a "RF Board, for Wireless signal".

If I want to use this mouse and keyboard on my laptop then should I buy a RF wireless USB dongle for the laptop or maybe a PCI card of the same kind because the laptop will not find the mouse and keyboard with it's built in wireless receiver.

    Hope this makes sense.

    Thanks in advance.

    Marcus.

1.) Laptops cannot use PCI cards; they have their own internal card formats that are much smaller and completely incompatable.
2.) You can get nice mini 4-port USB hubs for super-cheap...three of them would give you 12 useable ports, would that be enough?
3.) They make bluetooth keyboards & mice...if you already have the dongle, this may appeal to you, as you can use a single port for keyboard, mouse, and other bluetooth-type stuff.
4.) You might have a PCMCIA slot on the side or back of the laptop. You can get PCMCIA cards with multiple USB ports.
5.) You probably have a wifi adapter inside your laptop that is removable. This can be replaced with a WiFi+bluetooth adapter, thus eliminating the dongle.
