Hey there well im upgrading my PC *new everything* i getting a new PSU,new GPU,new ram, new motherboard, new case you get the idea...

What im wanting to know is (seeing as im custom building this new PC I have some stuff and other stuff i have to wait till i can afford it or waiting for it to arrive), is can i install an OS on a new HD using some of the old setup? as im expecting the Hard drive today *or least this week* and im wanting to install Windows 7 on it but i haven't got the motherboard or anything like that as of yet so what i was wanting to do is plug the new HD in *thats blank of course* install Windows 7 and then just plug the HD im using now till i get more of the new setup...ive asked one person he said oh yeah i think that will be fine but sounded unsure..

I was just planning on installing the OS on the new HD and not let it boot up or anything till i had the new setup running then id just put the HD into the new case and such and yeah so would that be safe to do or just wait till i have the motherboard and ram and stuff then install it?

wasting your time.. chances are the new motherboard will have a totally different chipset to your existing one and anything you install now will not work when you change boards.
