ps2 disk not spinning NOT a faulty laser

#1 30 Aug 2009 @ 12:52
Hi....I have a modded slimline ps2 and I have replaced the entire laser / carriage ass'y.
Now, the disk does not spin at all.
I did the modding a couple of years ago and the ps2 has been fine although i have changed the laser a few times since....
This fault has only occured after changing the laser ass'y this time.
I have tried a whole laser carriage ass'y out of a known good working ps2 and it does exactly the same so it is NOT due to the laser not focussing.
I have put the original ass'y which does not spin onto the known good working ps2 mobo and it does spin up.
This proves that it is something on the original non working ps2 mobo that is at fault i.e. maybe a fuse blown.
Is there a fuse for spinning up the disk motor? OR DOES ANYONE KNOW WHATS WRONG?
I have to own up and say that i forgot to desolder the 3 connections on the laser before I powered it up....I have since done this desoldering

Is the spindle hub spinning at all, even a 1/2 turn.
You have checked to make sure you laser cable is intact with laser and motherboard.
As for fuses on the PS2, YOu would just have to check them with a voltmeter.

sometimes the spindle appears to move ever so slightly....not half a turn but just enough to see it attempt to move.

Any ideas?????

Thanks

Well that really only leaves the spindle hub or some fuse possibly. It is rare for the spindle hub to go unless it was dropped, or one broke it accidently.
But if your laser lights up, and disk won't spin is usually the spindle motor.
If when you insert your disk, but the laser does not move up, then that is usually something to do with the 'snake motor'

What version of Slim do you have? Is it a V12, I am just wondering seeing you said you have changed the laser a few times. If so, did you do the laser fix when installing the mod chip.

It can't be the spindle hub as I have changed the entire ass'y for a known good one.
I also put the "faulty" ass'y in a known good working ps2 and it kicked up.
I have changed all 3 ribbon cables.
Thats why I'm thinking the fault is maybe a fuse on the mobo.
When I switch on I get the matrix logo....then the laser moves to the centre of the dvd, lifts up and the laser light comes on briefly......no move ment at all of the disk although once in a while the hub appears to move slightly.
I can't remember doing the laser fix when i modded the m/c.
Is that the reason I have had to replace the laser 3 or 4 times?
Could this be related to my current problem?
Could it be a fuse or chip that has blown?

Thanks

Ok you have a Matrix modchip then. Do you have the 7000x PS2 then?

Its hard to say if the chip has blown. You would have to get a voltmeter and check the fuses.

Did you try to reset the Modchip.

Disable, then enable it again.
