Hi, I have a ps2 phat lying around and also a slimline, I heard there's an easy way to mod the phat ps2 using an IDE hard drive. I have a hard drive but can anyone point me to what I need to use.

And is there a way to do it without having to buy action replay or anything?

EDIT: I just want to run backups but I don't mind being able to run homebrew ;)

Hi

In order to play games off the hdd on the FAT, you will need to have a Network adaptor.

Yes you will need a cheat disc, or Swap Magic to load the exploit.

Or you can get a volunteer in your area to install fmcb 1.8 for you.

Just check it out here and all other installation methods, including using a Swap disc.

The Sksapps.com site is having server issues at the moment, so you will have to just keep checking the links posted here

Once you do decide on using a hdd with the FAT PS2, this tutorial is great

Also you can play games off USB drive, with new tools being made all the time, the compatibility is getting better.

The only thing is you need to format the usb drive as FAT32

But the IDE hdd and network adaptor is the way to go.

Thanks smokyrain. It probably doesn't cost much for a disc to load the exploit anyway. After the exploit is done I don't need to use the disc anymore though right? unless the exploit is deleted.

Thats right, once you have installed the fmcb 1.8, you no longer require the disc.

Just your memory card with the fmcb 1.8 installed onto it.

I always say it is a good idea to read user guide first of the fmcb 1.8 along with the Installation guide.

It helps a lot to explain things.
