I/O Error dvd decrypter using external burners

I been using dvd decrypter with my laptop and 3 external burners(enclosures with burners) for long time.....burners are least 3 yrs old all Sony.....one the burners need to be replaced(tray issue).....I tried 8 different burners mostly Sony..they will read but won't write.The I/O error using dvd decrypter is "The Semaphored Timeout Period Has Expired".......seems newer burners won't work in enclosures or there a updated software or firmware that I need.....tried using Nero 8 "Write Failed".....hope someone help or suggest

get a new enclosure. that's the first thing to test with externals.

yeah i had the same problem...it's the enclosure, or the cable, mine is connected via USB cable..i had it replaced and ti doesn't do that anymore...the I/O error results in the external burner shutting off during a burning process, because it somehow got disconnected to the pc or laptop
