DVD Shrink DVD to MPEG4

When I try to convert DVDs made with DVDshrink to MPEG4's I only get the video, no sound? I tried a few different converters and the final out put is the same, no sound. What can I try to get the video and sound.

I can play them back using either VLC or MPCHC.

My final goal is to put the dvd,s on a external hard drive and play on my TV. But when I convert the DVD that I created in DVDShrink there is never any sound?

Does the drive connect directly to the TV or is it connected to a media player thence to the TV.
What's the audio in the mp4 (it was ac3 on the DVD) does the TV get the audio it expects.
