I've got a Western Digital 1080p media player with a 1TB hard drive connected... I'd like to move my dvd collection to the hard drive so I can put my dvd away into storage (space saving for the Mrs lol).

Would I just copy the files from the dvd into individual folders on the hard drive? would this playback?

I don't want to lose any quality, video or audio during the process, but don't mind removing the extra's on discs... I know there are programs such as dvd shrink that would probably do this - but I don't want to lose surround sound from my films.

I'm abit clueless with this, would be great if someone could advise...

p.s sorry if I posted in wrong forum, I sat trying to work out the best one to use for a few minutes lol

I have a WD TV media player.
AFAIK, it will not accept VOB files (rather, I haven't been able to make it play them).
You can convert the Title (no menu) to a large mpeg2 file (using Vob2Mpg) - you can select your audio track - but note that the player only supports surround sound through the optical port - the HDMI output is stereo.

If required, DVD Shrink can be used in Re-author mode to shrink the title (no menu) and you can select your desired audio track.

The output can then be converted to Mpeg2 using VOB2MPG.
