    Hi Everyone,

A friend recently came to me with a DVD of a 3 hour meeting that was done at his work place. He said it has video and sound on his PC but only video if played on his home DVD player. I placed the DVD in my DVD player and also got no sound.

I looked at the DVD and it was a +R DVD and my DVD Player was not compatible with DVD+R only DVD-R. So I copied the DVD onto the DVD-R disk using Nero. Still no sound on my DVD Player.

OK, so that next step was to copy the VOB files from the DVD+R and make the other necessary IFO BUF files from the VOB files. Then copy them onto a DVD-R disk. Still no sound.

What I did next was to turn up my 500W Amp to max. when playing either the original or DVD-R copy and you could hear some faint sound. Strange!

I have also noticed that when at the root DVD menu of the original or DVD-R disk it has DVD+VR. That does not look correct, especially on a DVD-R disk. Comments please.

So, if anyone can offer any suggestions as to why I have no sound on a DVD player it would be very much appreciated.

    TIA

    Greg

I don't know how the DVD was made, I've asked but they don't know. Also DVD flick will not read VOB files.

    Any other suggestions appreciated.

The free way to do it would be to convert the disk to divx, or the vobs, then drop the divx file in dvd flick and convert it back to the video_ts file format. If your dvd players can play divx even better wouldn't need to use dvd flick, link below for converting the disk, vobs.

If you download gspot and drop the vob in it, it will tell you what audio format was used, that's if you are interested.

    Gspot tells me AC3 constrant bit rate. Also,0xbd[0x80]:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , stereo (2/0)
Produced the same result. ie: No audio.

    Got me stumped!

This assumes that the encoding of the original AC3 is non compliant - inasmuch as the standalone players are concerned.

    1 VOBEDIT- Demux VOB to m2v, ac3
    2 PX3- Convert AC3 to WAV
3 FFMPEGGui- Convert WAV to New AC3
4 MUXMAN- Mux m2v with New AC3 into New VOB (a New VOB folder with all the required files is created)

    vobedit
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/VobEdit

Run VobEdit > 'Open', select VTS_01_1.VOB (the first large VOB of the title, the rest will come in at the same time).
'Demux' > select 'Demux Multiple Streams at once' and select video and audio.
    Save to a new folder.
The files will be saved as an .m2v ,ac3.

    px3 ac3 to wav
    http://www.videohelp.com/tools/PX3_AC3_to_WAV

Load the ac3 and select an output name eg new.wav (remember to put .wav in the filename)

    ffmpeggui
    http://download2.videohelp.com/download/ffmpeggui03c.zip

Load new.wav and save as new.ac3

    muxman (demo version)
    http://www.mpucoder.com/Muxman/versions.shtml

Load the video .m2v and the new audio 'new.ac3'
Indicate the language of the audio.
Press 'Start', a new DVD folder is created.

Thanks Attar, but this started as what I thought was going to be an easy job for a friend, so I don't think it's worth spending anymore time on. Thanks anyhow for your kind offer.

My friend with the DVD is a counselor and the 3 hour video is a meeting between her and the conflicting parties. I hope you can understand it would not be right for me give out any part of the interview, no matter how small.
