Unlocked Smart Phones and Plans

    Is it possible to use an unlocked smart phone that normally would be charged $30 a month extra with a plan, through a carrier without having to get the data plan. Or at least a lesser plan. Thanks.

    in theory prepaid should work.I dont have much experience with smart phones.
