well yes, as long as it is locked into a network within UK, not any other networks, like mine which is in canada, which is unlockable to this date

the phone lock you are talkign about i beleive is to be some sort of phone security lock, not a network barrier lock for which u need to "unlock" the phone.
in your case, the phone just has a 4 or 6 digit lock code on it, you have to figure that out yourself or go to yur desired service provider and they can usually do it for you .
