UMD boot trouble

Recently I just bought a Japanese PSP game and when attempting to load the game's UMD I get a message that says "you must update to version 6.37 or later...." etc. etc.

My PSP(both fat and slim) are using 5.50 GEN-D3 do I have to update my cfw to run it? if so, which one?

6.39 MEv9 should do the trick.

Xbox 360: On my fourth console, first one rrod 3 times, second one sold at ebay because of no HDMI, third one rrod during flashing (supposedly killed that drive), fourth one up and working on LT 3.0
PSP: Slim&Lite 2004 model with 6,60 ME v1.3
PS3: 60 Gig Model with the latest official firmware for going online and a modified case for better cooling
PSVita: Need some games for it, just bought an 8 GB memory card at ebay, awaiting a Photofast addapter for MicroSD-cards.
