Backing up HDD from a banned 360 using Xplorer360

Hey,
I have a few reasons for this. First off I want to add DLC and Arcade games to my banned 360. Secondly I want to use the larger 120gb on the banned system and the 20 on the legit system but I don't want to lose any saves.
My question, can i rip the drive out of the unit and plug it directly to my pc and use it with Xplorer360 or was there any modification to my drive that will affect the DLC on my system?
