Just putting you guys to the test here, as i have run out of ideas. I have an xbox 360 with a hitachi f79 drive spoofed as a Benq. Unfortuneately, the boy updated it, and its failed the update, (which i knew it would, thats why I didn't do it!), but now i'm screwed as it just comes up with the failed update screen, and i can't get past it. I've tried loading the latest update from a usb stick, and a cd\dvd, no joy. i would be happy to just get the thing working again for standard discs, but jungleflasher displays 7474...as the serial, so i guess the update has tried to flash the "Benq" drive, when in fact its a hitachi.
I bought the console like this from ebay, so hence i don't have a copy of the drive key. I'm ok with using a hex editor to view the firmware dump, which i managed to do, but have no idea where to look in the file for the key, or even if its possible! All was working fine until the update, so i assume the key is there somewhere, i just need some help(and luck) finding it so i can flash it to standard, and hopefully get the update to take. Any ideas anyone? Help me Obi Wan Kinobi, youre my only hope!

If i put in a benq drive, (without the correct key), will it update properly, or will it then only play dvd's? I was planning on putting a benq back in anyway, but i would have thought i need the key before i can get to that point

Originally posted by forestboy:Yes, you need the key in order for the new benq to play games since it was the original drive type. If you can get the key from "the boy", then you're all set. If not, you've got a really expensive DVD player. I'm sure "the boy" has a log file with your dvdkey in it. That's the first place I would start if I were you. Good Luck!

You could ask the ebay seller you got it from if he still has the original firmware flying around. If not you're screwed.
Xbox 360: On my fourth console, first one rrod 3 times, second one sold at ebay because of no HDMI, third one rrod during flashing (supposedly killed that drive), fourth one up and working on LT 3.0
PSP: Slim&Lite 2004 model with 6,60 ME v1.3
PS3: 60 Gig Model with the latest official firmware for going online and a modified case for better cooling
PSVita: Need some games for it, just bought an 8 GB memory card at ebay, awaiting a Photofast addapter for MicroSD-cards.

As i originally asked, i need to get the key from the drive i have, which was working, but i don't know where to look with the hex editor. I assume its now at a different location, and thats why jungleflasher can't see it. Sorry for any confusion. I did wonder if fitting a benq drive might allow the update to proceed, then i could put the hitachi back in, i think thats my next plan, any thoughts...

No, the key isn't on the drive anymore, that's your problem. It was spoofed, the firmware update erased it and tried to flash it with the firmware ment for that drive it identified itself as, but that one didn't fit, hence the error. You got a firmware-less drive without the key.

Originally posted by SYMBYAX:Wrong. You have to have the ORIG drive with the OFW flashed to it to update.

:(
I'm in a similar situation with this guy...I had a hitachi f79 drive. I don't think it was spoofed as anything, but i forgot. I had lt+ 1.1 installed on it.
my update finished perfectly, I can access live and the dashboard just fine, BUT i can't play backups anymore.
what should I do? I was going to upgrade the firmware to 1.9 but it doesn't seem to be compatible with hitachis.

Ok guys, Eisherz was right. I put a benq drive in, and the update completed from a usb stick. Obviously the drive would only play dvd's as the key was wrong. So, as a last resort, i put the hitachi drive back in, but alas, its got no key now either! The live update did indeed delete it , so now i have a DVD player. Thans MS. Unless someone knows how to get the key from the motherboard, which seems impossible having looked around, then this box is now for spares:(
