1. Flash back to stock.
2. Update the dashboard to the latest version.
3. Flash to LT+ 3.0.
4. Patch and re-burn any games protected by AP2.5 (and use a Burner Max burner for XGD3 games).
You'll find info on all of this in the very first pinned thread right at the top of the forum.

3. Flash to LT+ 3.0.
4. Patch and re-burn any games protected by AP2.5 (and use a Burner Max burner for XGD3 games).

Hey, no need to apologise. We were all in your position at one point.
As you already know what drive is in your console, the next stage would be to choose which method you're going to use for flashing it. I favour the Maximus Lizard, but there are other options such as some of the products made by Xecuter. I'd also recommend getting a case opening tool on eBay that will also come with the Torx driver you need for undoing some of the bolts inside the 360's case. There are plenty of guides to actually opening the 360 online.
Then download the firmware pack. Download the latest dashboard update from Xbox.com and pop it on a USB stick.
The next step would be to open the console and dump the key (check the JungleFlasher/Lizard guide), then you can flash it back to stock. If you don't have a backup of the stock firmware, then you can find one in the firmware pack. Once you've done that, you can update the dashboard via the update on the USB stick, then you can flash to LT+ 3.0.
The next step is to rip any AP2.5 games using ImgBurn, run the ISOs through abgx360 1.0.6 to patch them for use with LT+ 3.0, then re-burn them.
If you read through what I've just written and look for the relevant guides in the pinned thread I already mentioned, you'll find that it starts to become more clear! If you get stuck, just ask.

Oh and BTW, you might want to look at an alternative method like the xk3y or the Wasabi 360. They allow you to play game ISOs off an external hard drive. If the console is only going to be used offline, then that might be a better choice. The initial investment might be a bit more than buying the gear you'll need to flash your 360's drive, but you won't have to buy any blank dual layer DVDs.

you should hear mine, ps3 slim running on 3.55 kmeaw internal 500 gig, external is a 2tb, 1tb partitioned to fat32 for ps3 and other half is partitioned to wbfs for my wii, 1.5tb for me xk3y, pc wise 2tb external for movies and music, 1 tb external for pc programmes and a 500 gig internal that hardly gets touched. this is now a no disc house, kids have tv's with a usb port and can play divx. as long as we all work and can traet ourselves once in a while then hey ho we pay our taxes :)
