Is there a difference in back up style if you want to play from hard drive with a disc?

This is my dilemma, I want to play my games from the hard drive but can I copy my originals and use a dvd-r without firmware hacks and such?

I don't need to play str8 from the hard drive since I own the games but was wondering if you need the same info as if you were playing a copied disc without the hard drive

Nope. The 360 won't recognise burned discs as games without the firmware mod, so it won't be able to use the burned disc for authentication purposes when you try and fire up an installed game.

if the disc is an exact copy why do you need certain firmware?

If I run "this" firmware I run the risk of getting banned on xbox live correct?

Because the disc is only 99% the same. It is not an exact copy. There are certain features that can't be copied.

Maybe. You certainly run the risk by playing backup games.
