LG burner and fujitsu dvd+R DL's failed 5 times straight

#1 03 Sep 2010 @ 2:34
does any one use LG GSA H55N to backup any xbox 360 games on dual layer discs? my firmware was just flashed to 1.05 which was lastest one from 2008. but flashing to the latest firmware still doesn't work.

I failed to backup fujitsu dvd+r dl's because of spindle servo failure.
just bought the 15 pack, 5 discs wasted just to backup the same game, still not a single success

are fujitsu dvd+r dl's really that bad or my burner is just that outdated?

# EDIT
so it appears fujitsu outsourced ritek for this batch...

Did you make the image yourself and/or run it through abgx? I had the invalid address once when I patched a game in abgx to splitvid that I dont think needed it...burned the original image and it went right through

it died on the 1st minute though, which is really weird, I mean if it didn't finish after like 80% of the burn, I understand, but it ws like I put the disc in, 20 seconds later, error.

probably your burner or a software interfering. Make sure your antivirus is disabled. You should be using verbatim's and nothing else. That can make the difference alone.

Personally, I've had verbs fail with the "Invalid Address For Write" error as above. Seems to me like something else is going on besides "bad" media

Pretty much, yeah. There's been a lot of research that has gone into media testing. I posted a link here not too long ago that illustrated testing results from all the different manufacturers. Sometimes, it can be a reputable manufacturer that has recently switched to a different production plant with inferior manufacturing techniques that can be the source of the problem. Rarer, you get a bad batch from a reputable manufacturer...yes, even Verbatim. The only way to tell who made what is by the media ID on the disc when you run it through a burning software.

To be honest, I buy both Verbatim and Memorex. I have a Sony Optiarc burner that does a great job...very few coasters out of the 4-500 games I've backed up.

My Liteon, Benq, and Samsung drives do well with either company. My Hitachi doesn't approve of my memorex burns sometimes...but it loves the Verbatim discs.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

I thought memorex was widely accepted as shitty media, at least their dvd single layers are several tiers lower, and yet people praise their dual layers?
