Ok, so I recently bought the Maximus 360 Xtractor Pro kit and probe. I have scowered the internetz for information on exactly how to set it up, but have found only what to do after it is set up.
I now have the board with the on/off switch and eject button and what not (link to the board), the 12-hole power cable to connect to my Liteon drive, and the spear (with cable) to connect to Maximus board for key dumping. A Liteon 7x drive and a Dell Inspiron 531. I have modded EVERY type of drive except liteon in the Xbox360.
From what I've found, I still need either a 7 or 15-pin SATA to 4-pin Molex adapter, or a 4-pin Molex external power supply. Can anyone shed some light on that? As in, do I NEED the external power supply or can I use a 7 or 15-pin SATA to 4-pin Molex adapter like this one--> sata to molex on newegg and use the SATA cable in the back of my DVD drive like I have been with all the other drives?
And what exactly is the RS232 cable even FOR? I don't have one and have no idea if I'd even need one. There is VERY little information (from what I've seen) on the internet about the necessity of this part for Liteon modding.
All in all... could someone just explain how to set this thing up? what to plug where?

I haven't used this kit but I may be able to help you figure it out. It looks like it already has a 4 pin molex connector so plug one in from you PC's power supply. Then you said it has the 12 pin power cable so that goes to the drive and that should take care of your power. Not sure what the 7/15 ping sata to 4 pin molex would be for (or why they wouldnt include it if it was needed).
For data it looks like it has the sata port right on there so connect from it directly to the sata port on the drive. RS232 is a serial port that you see right there next to the power connector which you dont need to worry about unless you want to use dosflash. Use the USB instead and run that to your PC and use jungleflasher. If I'm wrong someone feel free to correct me :)

There is no SATA port on the Maximus board, that's why I need the SATA to Molex adapter or cable. But thank you for the rs232 info, I actually did some rs232 research that was unrelated to xbox just to see what it was for and found out I can use the USB 2.0 port on the kit instead of the rs232 serial port. What I'm wondering is where the power to my drive is coming from if I have to place the cable into the Maximus board... is the power from the Molex port going to power the Maximus board AND the drive? Or is it going to take power from the usb connection?
My PC's power supply has no molex cables of any kind. and there are no molex ports or plugs inside my comp at all. Molex is old tech I believe.

The power is coming from the molex, not the USB port.
The adapter you linked to should work fine.
The SATA is connected from the 360 drive to the PC in order to flash the firmware on the drive.
The RS232 (aka serial) connection is to read the drive key from the Lite-On drive since it cannot be read via SATA like other drives.

Ok so I have it mostly figured out thanks to you guys, but where do I plug in the SATA part of the Molex cable?
It appears I have an extra 15 pin SATA cable coming off the one plugged into the back of my DVD drive, they're the female ones I believe (receive a 15 pin SATA head), so lucky break there as I have no 15 pin ports on my mobo.
Does all this mean I'm good to go as soon as I get to Radio Shack to get the 15 pin SATA to Molex?

You just need the SATA power --> molex power adapter. Once you get that, it is all good.

have you used up all your molex connectors from your power supply? seems like a stupid question but i've hardly seen people who have sata power connectors run out of their molex connectors.

The only molex I see coming out of my power supply is the wrong size. I'll just have to use a sata to molex cable or adapter.

Although your question has been answered, if other people ever have the same question, changing the thread title will make it more difficult for them to find an answer.
