A buddy of mine asked me to flash his xbox. He handed me two broken ones to see if i could get a working one out of the two. One had the open tray error and 1 was RROD. Here was my game plan. Pull the drive from the open tray error and grab the key, then pull the drive from the RROD one and spoof the firmware/key onto it. Everything went smooth up until i updated to the latest dashboard. Here was my process. Pull Key from Drive 1, spoof onto drive 2 with an older version of LT+. 1.9 i think it was. After the flash i SHOULD have seen if it was working but i didnt. I plugged it into xbox live and ran the update. After the update, I reflashed and put on LT+3.0. Now, if i put in a burned disc or an oem disc it says open tray. I have tried the origional drive with LT+3.0 but i have not tried stock firmware yet. The drives i'm working with are Lite-on DG16D2S 7485 Spoofed onto a 83850c. I thought that we were still on the November 19th update that flashes your xbox back to stock...which it did.. but this is a way newer update. I'm not sure if something with this newer update is preventing me from spoofing this drive. I've got another BenQ drive around here somewhere that i think i'm going to try spoofing onto. Anyone ran into something like this? could both of those drives be bad and giving back the open tray error? I'm kicking myself for not checking the disc before i run the latest update.

If you dont use the exact same drive in the box as it came with the newer xgd2 and any ap25 games wont boot and you will get an e66 error with a black screen every time you put a newer disk in even with originals due to new checks. older games will still boot fine but it might cause a ban if you go on line with it. Ive seen a bad dvd drive belt cause the open tray error but it could be something else to. If your console boots to the dash with the drive hooked up then the firmware should be okay. They usually e66 if you make a mistake.
