i had an LG dual layer burner but it stopped working for my backups.
i just bought the Pioneer 118LBK and i was wondering if it would work with my backups

Are the Samsung's still the only drive you can rip from originals with Kreon FW?

I'm really not sure, last I heard you needed a Samsung SH-163B (or similar) flashed with kreon Firmware.

Is this still true?

you need a console dvd drive with 0800 firmware last time i checked you can get firmware from xbins. i havent ripped anything for a while so i may be wrong.
