Wait a minute budjockey.........
If you "recovered a disc" that won't play any more, don't you have to have a way to read that disc? And if you can read that disc, you've got to have some knowledge of ripping/burning, right? And if you can rip/burn, wouldn't you know that the console has to be modded/flashed?

It may seem obvious to you guys but I dont even own a games machine and know nothing about them.... just trying to help out my nephew.

Dont worry its cool, i wasnt going after you at all. Its just that ALOT of people come in here asking basic (to me/us) questions and then start questioning people once they get a resolving finite response and act like they know everything. Lets just say the guard is up in here but not in a bad way ;). You can easily learn how to mod an xbox 360 if you have the skills and knowledge to do with isobuster. trust me, its as easy as ripping from isobuster, Its just needs a little more reading then your set.
