ok i have two old white 360 and one the drive is burnt up and wont read but i have a new one on the way. my question is i have seen alot of options for modding like playing back up games and another for backing up games to a usb hhd. what im trying to find out is which one is better. also i have seen mod chips out there is there any worth buying that i can reuse on my other 360. i have done some research but i really kinda dont understand i just need some explanations thanks

You'd have to buy the xkey first.
Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Recently updated to PS3 slim 160 GB (60 GB phat still working)
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: DOL-001 model put in a DOL-101 case. Otherwise unmodified. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
PS3: Recently updated to PS3 slim 160 GB (60 GB phat still working)
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: DOL-001 model put in a DOL-101 case. Otherwise unmodified. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I personally don't recommend the xkey, as you already said, it's a lot of money you'd have to drop into it, especially now that you don't need a specific burner for burning games anymore. You also need the tools to get your drive key off your drive, on a Phat that's actually pretty easy.
I personally recommend the drive flash, go to http://jungleflasher.net/downloads.html and download the jungleflasher tutorial, it tells you how to identify your drive and what you have to do to flash it. If you have a lite-on drive, tell us, there is an easier way of flashing that as the one described in the JF tutorial.

It does not come with the drive key (it can't). Your drive has a unique key that has to match the one stored on your console's motherboard. That key you'll have to program the xkey with.
By the way, that was the last spoonfeeding I did.
