Recently bought it off someone for $40 on the hope I might be able to repair it somehow. I've honestly never owned a PS3 and don't know much about them, but do possess serviceable soldering skills and a rudimentary grasp of electronics. I've jtagged my 360, modded ps2's, xbox1's, psp's, etc.
My problem, no audio. In the XMB, in the games, etc. Everything works fine...just no audio. I don't own a hi-def tv, so I haven't had a chance to test it via HDMI. Only standard def. I've reset, reformatted, etc. Checked the audio settings, of course.
Any ideas where I should start?

I have a similar problem. I have one of the first PS3 systems made, the 80GB backwards compatible one. The bluray laser went out on it about a year after buying it so I replaced it and everything worked fine and still does for the most part...lol When the PS3 is hooked up to my 46inch plasma via HDMI everything works great. No problems at all. Sometimes my kid likes to play for hours and when he does that he hooks the PS3 up to his Acer HD Monitor with built in speakers. We, this is where my problem comes up. It worked fine for a while and now all of a sudden we can't get any sound out of the monitor when playing games on DVDs, all the demos work with sound and don't have any other problems, just no sound when playing games on DVDs. Any help or ideas would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

try and do a reset of the system, with the ps3 off, push the power button you will hear a beep but keep your finger on it until you hear a second beep, that should reset the ps3 to what you have plugged in,weather its a hdmi to a lcd,or just a regular tv,see what happens,

Thanks a bunch. It worked perfectly. I have to remember to always try that first. It seems to work on several issues. Shouldn't really have to do that shit when you pay as much as we do for a state of the art gaming system. But Oh Well, What can you do. Thanks Again.
