AAC 5.1 ???

#1 30 Jul 2009 @ 5:29
Hey. I have alot of mp4 video files on my computer. I bet you all have ;).

When i share those files in Tversity and copy it on to my ps3 i got a major problem.

Its a 720p bluray rip and the audio is 5.1 AAC. I then go into my sound settings on my ps3 and enable AAC. Then when i play it my surround receiver dont recognize anything or send any sound out.

On my receiver i can see how many speakers are creating sound. And the speakers dissappear when i play the movie.

Shouldnt the PS3 be able to play AAC 5.1 sound ?

Yes the PS3 will play it, but it may the fact that your sound system doesnt support 5.1 AAC.
I had the same problem ages ago and had to convert the AAC track to AC3.

@Sudds - mate, what did you use to convert the AAC audio stream to AC3?

@swankie - maybe your pc has something on it which is automatically converting the AAC to AC3 on the fly, so when you play your mp4 with AAC from your computer, it is actually sending an AC3 signal to your surround sound amp? I have the exact same problem you describe with your PS3, and its all because my old AMP doesn't support AAC

Everything is funny when it's happening to somebody else...

I dont convert to AAC at all mate.
When encoding the dvd, D2V converts the DD stream to AC3,
You can use MeGui or BeSweet to convert your AAC to AC3, try to avoid 5.1 AAC as its not widley supported yet, if converting for your PS3, use MeGui to convert your vid stream to X264 leave your audio as is from D2V Creator, then mux the two with SmartLabs TSMuxer into an M2TS file.
