Been searching for a while and looking for help in renaming files. I can rename them on my hard drive, but when I go to see the file on my PS3 it shows the original file name and structure. IS there a way around this?

LG 4040B Super Multi Drive dual x format
ps2 v10, Duo 2 SE

What type of file are you trying to rename?

I will assume you are using windows:

1.) Make sure windows is set to display the whole filename (including the extensions).
2.) Make sure windows is set to display all files, and not hide system or hidden files.
3.) Look for a file called "desktop.ini" and delete it.

The PS3 will display the file TAGS before the file NAME - so if you've got a file named "movie.avi" but the Xvid tag or whatever on it is "my movie," then the PS3 will display "my movie."

So changing the name will only work if your file has no tags on it. The same thing applies to mp3 files - a file named "Chris Rock.mp3" with the tag "Chris Rock Performs" will be displayed on the XMB as "Chris Rock Performs."

...or at least that's how it is with me. I've had to change all my files' tags because of that issue.

Oh ya, forgot about that...I had to redo a bunch of ID3 tags because the band names were formated slightly differently within an album, making the PS3 see it as two albums.
