The method has been in the wild for over a month; this is just a slightly easier way of doing it. Unfortunately, getting a unique console ID is not exactly an easy thing to do.
Honestly, I am kinda hoping that Anonymous hacks the sony servers and downloads the list of console IDs, then uploads it to the net. Sony claims that their actions are justifiable because some of their victims are pirates...I wonder if they would keep singing that tune if all their non-jb'd users started getting banned because others had to use their console IDs in order to get back online. I think sony might actually change policy if more than 90% of the userbase was up in arms...90% being the absolute minimum percentage of customers that it would take to make Sony care about anything other than control.

That server hack would be beautiful and it would be the checkmate for the situation behind banning because lime you said we'd be forced to use non jb'ed ps3 psid. Then they'd have to deal with there "wholesome" clients who don't jb complaining about being banned and then they'd have more crap to deal with. Im deeply hoping this goes down. I'm getting sick of all this crap and all the while I'm being pegged as a pirate when I'm not downloading sh*t!

That would be pretty messed up. Thats the only thing i think about when I see that software getting updated. That will definitely be a worst case scenario for Sony if people are able to copy the ID's of the innocent.

I can already copy my own ID...and I am innocent. I want to be able to copy the IDs of the guilty; by which I mean the people who happily support the tyranny of Sony.
Granted, it would be an attack on the users...and that really isn't cool usually...but it isn't like anonymous would be firing the guns; they would just be moving the guns so that they fired on a different set of innocent people...and if sony refused to do something about it, then the only way for most non-jailbroken consoles to get online would be to jailbreak!
On a side note, I am almost happy that they raided Graf's house; that raid essentially proved that he was innocent of piracy and that he really was doing what he was doing for the reasons he said he was doing it for.
Sony: you are a pirate
Graf: No I am not
Sony: We have no proof, but we have a search warrant anyway
Graf: Search away
Sony: We found nothing, but you are still guilty.
Graf: I just uploaded everything to the web to spite you
Sony: We are suing you for more money than you could possibly pay
Graf: BRING IT!

Considering the fact that I, Graf, and geohot have done nothing illegal, and are therefor all innocent victims of sony, I would like everyone to become a victim. If everyone was a victim of sony, then sony could not use their standard claim that they are just going after people who want freedom; even their happy little slaves would be victims...and then they would be forced to stop victimizing everyone. It is a choice between 5% being victims forever, or 100% being victims for a week...I choose the later, as it is less total suffering in the long run.
Imagine there was a law that stated that ownership of a metal fork was punishable by death...but only a handful of people were ever charged. There would be a few people concerned about it, but most people would just buy plastic forks and say, "It is their own fault for owning metal forks...screw them!". Now imagine that someone modified the law so that anyone who had ever used a fork of any kind was to be put to death...that would be enough to raise awareness and to get the law struck down.
Oh, and your 90% figure is a bit high; just about everyone in my family has asked me about this whole mess because they saw it on TV or the internet...and I am the only person in my family that plays video games. Considering that all these people know about it, I can't see how 90% of actual gamers could be ignorant. If they actually are that ignorant, then the need a wake-up call all the more.
It isn't just my rights or Graf's rights, or even the rights of the whole JB community. The rights of everyone who owns a video game console or personal computer are at risk here...and ignorance or disregard for the things sony is doing is almost as bad as the actions of Sony. Remember, blind followers are ultimately responsible for the worst crimes against humanity in all of history...being surrounded by Nazis is no excuse to kill jews, is it?

New laws are brought in for one reason but used for so many others. Like in the UK we brought in the sill terrorism act, instead it was used to remove an elderly labour supporter who was fed up with the labour party from a conference!
So from what we have seen sony do so far, do you think they will hold back if things go in their favour, they will just alienate more of their customers with their paranoia.

...And if that happens, then the same people calling jailbreakers a bunch of criminal pirates will be trying to get jailbreakers to help them because sony banned them for using racing wheels, or because their PSN games are no longer available without paying for them again, or because they lost 3 hours of game progress when their always-on DRM game turned off because the sony server had a glitch.

Why should I be okay to with mine,my,dads,my,brother, and both my sisters PS3 ID to be stolen and be used for something so trivial? What about OUR rights not wanting to be involved in this trivial pointless exercise?!
And who the hell do you think you are and to start labeling people "blind followers"?So now your judging me and other people and labeling us as part of the problem just because we choose to follow the Sony TOS? FU!
I choose not to use CFW or back up my games and so far I've been playing with my PS3 games and get access to PSN hassle free and until Sony shows up at my door and start carting off my family to jail then I don't have a beef with them. Its not like Sony is committing mass genocide here or even killing the people they are carting off to jail.
Graf and Hotz still have their day in court so please don't make this out to be more dramatic than it really is.
Oh and my friend who is Jewish finds it offensive that your comparing the struggles of his people and what they went through with the nazis offensive since he states its not even the same for you to be using that comparison.
At the end of the day your fighting for the right to be able to use an inanimate object which at the end of the day does not even count as a necessity.
At the end of the day, all your problems and gripes with Sony can all be easily solved by not buying anymore of their product.Yes even if it was gifted to you. It's hypocritical that you hate them but not enough that your still willing to accept Sony products as gifts.

Innocent people will be affected if the sh*t hits the fan with the servers. Thats just the way the cookie crumbles. Consequences comes to all of us. The Jailbreakers get banned, shunned etc and the legit gamers will get psid's hijacked. But at least they can always claim to be legit and hopefully get back on track. I'm just staying posted to see if madness ensues.

so.... for the minority >> of the minority......the majority must get in trouble. Really great way of thinking you have there mate, Bravo!
The kids in africa that starving to death, that dont even know how to write, i dont think that they are wishing the entire planet to starve to death cause the monetary system.
**and to explain what i mean by saying "minority >> of the minority"
minority #1 is people that hack PS3>> of the minority #2 is people that hack it for linux and not for piracy.
You like it or not, no matter how blind you are... 99.99% that have installed CFW to a PS3 is for piracy.Period.
If "I" wanted linux to "MY" PS3 and "I" had the knowledge to do it i would do it and keep it to my self! and SONY wouldent bothered me "EVER"!.
If "I" wanted it soooo much and i didnt had the knowledge.
Option 1 learn how to.
Option 2 buy a PC that would run waaaaaay faster linux than the PS3.
PS3 cant do anything more that a PC with linux can't.
btw...after all that and the momentum that Sony have with all this courts/sues etc etc Have you ever thought what will happen if Sony win's all this cases???
Have you ever thought that maybe sony wanted all this to happen??? and if they didnt wanted, that maybe they saw it as a big chance?
If now Sony can do almost anything and get away, when this "war" ends Sony will come out with twice the power that has now.
And if you think that people will stop buying Sony products...... not in your wildest dreams.

Wow...even sony does not make claims like that...and it simply makes no sense. Why would pirates buy the PS3 when there was no way to pirate games? They wouldn't...they bought the xbox instead. As for the people who have bought since jailbreaking, they make up only a small fraction of the PS3s in the wild, so even if they were all pirates, the piracy rate would still be very low.

If that is really how you feel, then I feel sorry for you. The whole point of Linux is to be an open platform where people share good ideas so that they can combine into great features. Anyway, what is the point of any development if you do not release it?

Anything is possible...but when they are conflicting with themselves in two different cases in the same court, nothing short of massive and obvious corruption would allow them to win both cases. They might loose both cases, but to win both cases, they would need box trucks to deliver all the bribe money.

At this point, I consider Sony almost the same as Apple...
If you buy an apple, you know what you are getting, and you deserve it for supporting such terrible practices.
If you buy a PS3, you know what you are getting, and you deserve it for supporting such terrible practices.
The only real difference is that apple users knew about these limitations when they bought, and PS3 users didn't get the limitations until a year after the warranty was up. Apple never advertised the iPhone as supporting Flash...Sony not only advertised OtherOS, but their staff stated numerous times that it would never be removed.
I an not a judge, or even a lawyer...but there is something called common sense. Common sense says that if it is legal to jailbreak an iPhone, thus adding the POTENTIAL for piracy, then it should be legal to jailbreak anything, even if it adds the POTENTIAL for piracy. Even if you ignore the theft of OtherOS, the threat of bans for using non-approved accessories, and a general lack of GameOS advancement (thus creating need for JB-only apps), the simple fact is that I paid for the system, I should be able to use it however I like, and I should not be banned for enabling the features that the system came with. If I were to play pirated games or cheat online, then I should be banned...but Sony has shown that they don't care about these things at all...because many of the banned users were doing neither of these things. Sony wants to bypass common sense and the intent of the law, and work on poorly worded clauses that don't actually apply from what I have read. At the same time, they are using the same loopholes backwards in the other case, and openly conflicting with their own arguments in the process. THIS IS CALLED PERJURY if a person does it, but it is just ignored when a corporation does it.
[edit]
Oh, by the way...if it meant that they could eat adequate portions after the fast was over, then I am sure that the vast majority of starving african children would support a 3-day-long world-wide fast. Heck, I would gladly give up food for a week to see that happen...and there are many who would happily starve themselves to death for such a result. If you wouldn't give up food for a few days to save the lives of millions, then you are the either worst kind of person, or someone with a medical condition like diabetes.

KillerBug seriously now, stop talking crap. The only reason that people wanted Linux on their system, would be to open a way to hack their console. For everyone that bought ps3 just to try to hack or anything i feel sorry for him. And now we have the retard-attention kid geohot who thought, that by sending an email to Sony, that Sony would offer him a job. And just because they refused he started posting the ps3 keys on the internet as a punishment? Seriously now guys like geohot, kakaroto and other kids try to make Sony look like a bad guy, and make themselves look like protectors of us and shit like that.
WE DID NOT ask them to do what they do.So stop believing that you kids have the world with you.You cannot do anything you want with your ps3 because you cannot do anything you want with your f#$@#% car. RULES DO APPLY in this case too. So stop pretending that you protect someone.

Have you ever visit a torrent site? or search google? have you see the DL count of PS3 games?
I have deleted many PSN buddies from the time that JB was released.
You honestly believe that people that have bough PS3 before JB havent hacked their PS3 for piracy?
You forgetting or you dont want to remember even at this very forum, that the mods were forced to made a sticky-thread saying that "the PS3 cant play backup as for ##/##/##" and how many threads were made asking this from day 1?

I know that the CellBB is a monster, but from the other hand what you want to do with it? why you need all this "strictly" CPU power? Cause PS3 is is limited to everything else.

You really think that they care about the money that will spend in this case?
Have you forgotten what happened with BD vs HDDVD?
TBH, i dont think that sony is alone in this. I dont think that isnt getting support from other companies.
Even if the roumer is true that MS indeed gave money to GH, (that was clearly a PR move by MS) no one can convince me that deep down they dont want Sony to win this.

and if they loose what? do you think they will unlock PS3? if something like that happens (to be legal to JB a console) every gaming console manufacturer and game developers will go crazy...and a new DMCA law will be written, plus that the eula will be changed again.

Cause you mentioned MS.....360 is inferior in every single detail and have sold more consoles, MS in constantly under heat cause the crapy windows and suddenly cause MS havent pushed so far the anti-piracy thing is the good guy.

Yes but cause for example the Playstation brandname = gaming, and the majority bought PS3 strictly and only for gaming, they are more than satisfied with what they bought. why not? Dont forget that the majority buys products for what they have been advertised, e.x. PS3=Gaming Console and BD player.
How many knows or care what even F@H actually does/is?

At linux removal i am 110% with you, and with everyone that wants it back, i even called sony when i learned about it.
But sony didnt woke up one day and said "lets remove linux" something made them remove it.
Why they had it there in 1st place? When they were loosing money by each console? If it was a fact that the otherOS is a console seller they would have brought it back now that they have profit.
If you want to blame someone blame piracy and the people that enable it and support it.
Sony is a company after all = wants profit. Without profit why release products in 1st place? for the glory?
Sony isnt MS that have 1? 2? 1st party studios, Sony have 20? (i think) 1st party studios.
And the fact is that if Sony didnt have this studios to develop AAAAA games PS3 would have been doomed long time ago.
From the other side if 360 wasnt hacked from day-1 360 would be waaaay under 20mill consoles.
I hope that gives a really good reason why sony fights so hard piracy and MS dont.

THIS IS CALLED PERJURY if a person does it, but it is just ignored when a corporation does it.
what do you expect? just go out without a fight? not support their house? who wouldent?
Even Murderess support their self in court, even the ones that admit that "did it".
Quote:Yes but as i said, the people that actually use linux and have CFW for linux is the minority of the minority.
[edit]Oh, by the way...if it meant that they could eat adequate portions after the fast was over, then I am sure that the vast majority of starving african children would support a 3-day-long world-wide fast. Heck, I would gladly give up food for a week to see that happen...and there are many who would happily starve themselves to death for such a result. If you wouldn't give up food for a few days to save the lives of millions, then you are the either worst kind of person, or someone with a medical condition like diabetes.
To kill a few to save millions justifies the means, to kill millions to save a few..... well that's fascism.
To close this up,
The hack wasnt about linux, or freedom. It was for personal profit.
If it was a hack that the only thing that you could do was to re-install linux how many do you think would have installed it/download it? Who would care? No One.
Thats is why i am 200% percent with sony in this.
I really hope that Sony wins this and make GH's life a living hell cause he is a two tong snake.

You like it or not, no matter how blind you are... 99.99% that have installed CFW to a PS3 is for piracy.Period.
Never mind the fact that the price would come down or that the phat models overheat a lot or that they would release a slim version which not only saves a little space but uses 40% less electricity.
Oh and not forgetting that I downloaded terabytes of games from day one from torrent sites. Yes so much data downloaded, and yet not a single way to play a single game for 4 years.
Yes I am a clever pirate ;)

Judging from the BS that you just posted, you arent so bright in general, are you?
You dont even know how to say a lie to support your believes/ to make a point.
.....PS3 at lunch day was tagged at 659euros (you do the conversion to Pounds with 2007 currency). Do you have a PS3 at all at least?

I would understand and i would support it, if you or anyone else makes a valid point how the hell the PS3 Hacking/PS3 Hacking scene helps the average user.
Cause as for Now they only thing that PS3 hacking have done to average user is numerous updates, online cheating and "maybe" disabled some usb devices and forced sony to remove the otherOS.
