Hello guys, So I'll put it simply. I have a 60gb refurb i got from Sony about a 2ish months ago, now the fans are already on max on the xmb after 5 mins or so and games and blurays occasionally skip.
Well i called Sony and basically the rep told me (rather sarcastically) that the fans are supposed to be working sir, and that the skipping is problems with the games......Yeah...

i still have a months warranty so it comes down to this.
Playstation 3's gotta sleep with the fishes, meh, and we gotta make it look like an accident, see?

Ideas?

lol

Make it over heat, wrap it in a towel, the PS3 might cut out, but just keep doing it until you get a ylod.

Or you could electrocute it.

Yea, 1 month left. You need to hurry up and take care of that. Towel or SuranWrap. < I dont know how to spell that. I hear the GodFather is looking for some part time help. You sound like you could get the job. Get everything backed up before taking it out behind the wood shead.

"leave the PS3, take the controllers"
[/lame attempt at a godfather reference]

I know what you mean about the fans. It's happened to me a few times. I turn on the PS3 and the fans start blasting like it's an airplane about to take off. And they don't stop until I shut down the machine and restart it. If you can't fry it in time for the warranty coverage, have you tried blasting the interior through the vents with compressed air? Fans bearings might be getting gunked up. I think that is what worked for me. How about cleaning the laser? Maybe you could rent one of the same title and see if it is indeed the game.

....or, get $150 ready :P

You can probably tell Sony whatever. (I'm getting jumping pic then Yellow Light and nothing works) They send you a Coffin. They probably wont even check yours before sending you a referb. I sent mine in last year and got a different one. You might have my old one.
Get it sent in now while it is still under warenty and if they send you the same one back and say that nothing is wrong with it; at least you have it on record incase it totaly craps out later.

Wow, the mafia movie imitations are so bad they're funny. :)

Take a heat gun to it at 500 degrees?

i think you get more time in the slammer for pre-meditated. just say you "accidently" put a towl over its vents.

Your friend is honest and thinks she plays AC2 on a PS3. In reality she is playing AC1 on a PS2.

Electrocute marcusita?

So the overwhelming consensus is that i should Smother it with a towel like an old lady and a pillow.

I think I'll accidentally on purpose put cling film/saran wrap around the towel just incase the heats too hot and the plastic melts, Do i cover the front intake vents aswell? I don't want it to burst in flames in retaliation.
Also how do you do the fan test? I'll run that aswell while its all warm and cosy.

Good idea on the towel...it might look suspicious if the system has a bunch of plastic wrap burned to it. I doubt you would get an actual fire...the power supply would probably overheat and die before it gets hot enough to burn plastic...but it might melt a little.

BTW...companies tend to treat you better after one of their products has started on fire for you. A few years ago, I had a dremel tool that I was using to cut lots and lots of padding...with so much dust that I needed goggles and a mask for breating. After a few hours, it was so full of this stuff that it started on fire. They proptly sent me a replacement, paid shipping both ways (cross-shipping), and they have been sending me free tools & accessories ever since. Not bad considering I admitted that it was my own fault. I doubt sony would be so kind, but you never know...the last thing they want is a rumor about the PS3 causing fires. (Leave that for the iPhone 3GS)

I hope not...the whole point is to trade the dead body, not to hide it forever.

you dont need to wrap it. all you need to do is stand it upright but upside down. when you turn it on the fan cant blow the air out right and with in a few seconds the fan will go as fast as it can go cause the air cant get out the right way.
