All the Jailbreak dongle in the market is a USB plug and play solution , what you are concerned about is the ability to upgrade because you want the option to flash your Jailbreak with psgroove or new firmware . no one really expect the Chinese team to come out with their own upgrade codes. Unfortunately , most of the PS3 dongle in the market are cheap and not upgradable .
Upgradable dongle :
P3Free

P3Free comes with come with "F1/F2/F0" label is upgradable via USB .
NOTE : do NOT buy the P3FREE come with "F" label:
$25 price tag
How to update : http://forums.afterdawn.com/t.cfm/f-153/...irmware-869137/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
P3Hub

The P3Hub is a new product which supports self-programmable feature through USB announced by the PS3Break team , whose PS3Break is the first affordable alternative to the ‘official’ PSJailbreak , that can be found for less than $35 on most shops . It makes PS3Break very famous and popular among PS3 users . However , the PS3Break team change the ATMEL chip over PCI chip which can’t (or complicated to) be upgraded . That maybe the reason why they release the PSHub .
$34 price tag
How to update : the same as P3Free .

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS3Yes

$30 price tag
The chip is AVR at90usb162 , yep , It can be upgraded.
How to update : PS3Yes.com have released the lateset firmware based on PSGroov , so don't flash it with the customer PSGroove which will disable the auto-upgrade mode.
You need to download the Flip to perform the update .
Download here : http://www.ps3yes.com/English/Download.aspx
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS3Key :

The genuine PS3Key comes with a Serial number , don't buy the fake one .
$49 price tag
How to update : check here http://www.ps3key.com/en/support/
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PS3Break v1.1 :

The PS3Break team just released their new upgradable PS3Break v1.1
$30price tag
How to update : http://ps3break.com/Download.asp
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dongle can't be upgraded
PS3Break v1.0 :
An image speaks more than thousand words:

"white" version of PS3break you have a ATMEL chip that can be upgraded with FLIP and without any troubles or any additional soldering work (thank God!).
"pink" version of PS3break you have a PIC micro controller with a FAKE upgrade button and it can't be upgraded (yet or not) as easy as ATMEL's version, probably needs soldering work. Bottom line: you can't update your PIC at the moment, no matter what resellers or manufacturer are saying!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
PSJailbreak CLONE

Obviously it is not a ATMEL chip , it can't be upgrade either .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
UsbBreak

The manufacturer of UsbBreak is the same as PS3Break , just a cheap alternative way to jailbreak the PS3, of course , it is not upgradable for sure .
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If anyone can provide the info of the original X3Jailbreak OR PSJAIBREAK , it would be appreciated.
This article is not fully completed, I'll update it when I got more info .

...And why must it be an amtel-made chip? Most of these units come from china, where exact clones of amtel chips are sold for 1/2 the price of the real thing. Sure, the quality is probably crap...but that is to be expected from any Chinese product.

That's the difference .
I think all of us want to get a better upgradable product when the price of these things is the same .

Anyone know of someone selling PS3Yes in the UK or europe?
also Lighttake are based in China, anyone ordered from them lately due to the fact that the chinese customs are checking for jailbreak devices.

I think what he's trying to say, and what I'm wondering as well, is: What makes Atmel chips superior to, say, a Teensy board?
In other words, compared to other programmable boards (so excluding those un-upgradeable ones that I'll refer to as fakes), what makes Atmel ones better?
Because again, the barebones boards are cheaper and just as reliable, if not more so, than the boards that have bits of plastic encasing them. The only difference between the two (sans your upcoming explanation) is that the user has to manually program the board in the first option, and, as I recall, they sometimes have to in the second option as well. (From what I remember, one or more of those clones actually sells just a barebones board with a brand name painted on.)

Actually...the Teensy uses an Amtel chip...they are great chips; I have never argued against that...but this does not mean that no one else can do the same job, and when they are making 1:1 clones with no fear of the law, then it isn't hard to get very close.
It is hard to tell from the pictures...I am not sure if the "fake" reset is a fake switch, or if it simply isn't connected. However, I know that the Teensy does not need a "program" button at all...so I have to question how vital this actually is to reprogramming.
As for upgrades, that is a grey area almost everywhere. You can be reasonably sure that a Teensy 2.0 or 2.0++ will get any updates that are released, but who is to say that these units will be able to be upgraded...or rather...who is to say that there will be ports to any of these units, and if there are ports, how long will you have to wait after the teensy version of the upgrade is released? For all we know, the next PS3 jailbreak version might require more memory or processing power, thus making all current jailbreak methods other than the Teensy 2.0++ useless.
For that matter, who is to say that there will be upgrades? Sony held off against such attacks for 4 years, during which time, one hole was discovered, exploited, and then patched by Sony. It might be another 4 years before another hole is found, assuming there are other holes to find.
Personally, I am waiting for the day that I can order a pair of Teensy 2.0++ keys without backorder...one for the jailbreak, and one for something else I am working on.

But yeah, I have the same basic problems with all these dongles and clones of dongles and fake clones of dongles that you do. Which is why I'm willing to wait. Nothing of interest to me except booting off hard drives, and I'm still running on a stock 60GB with no intention of upgrading anytime soon, AND there aren't any games that I really want to play and can't/won't fork out the money for, AND those games all happen to be PS2/PS1 games, so all in all, until the community develops a bit more (and maybe brings back OtherOS), I'm willing to wait and cheer from the sidelines.

PS3YES! can flashed with PSGroove HEX, but it will lost the auto upgrade function, next time you must break it out and short two pad to enter upgrade mode.

PS3BREAK checked the pink version is original and can be upgraded

Then suddenly your telling us the pink version is fake and can't be upgraded
Take a look at the longer one has the green check on it that has a PIC chip.
And you said PIC can't be upgraded... It's very confusing..
