Gran Turismo 5 GPS to PS3 Functionality
Polyphony Digital (the makers of Gran Turismo) & Japanese Auto Technology company "Denso" have teamed up to come up with a truly amazing piece of portable hardware that will help to blur the virtual and reality line with their new development project called the “GPS-track day unit”.
Pick up one of these units and set off to do any amount of laps in your real car on a track (that is also within the GT5 world), have it monitor your position in the real world, take the memory card out of the GPS Unit and simply plug it into your PS3 to use interactively with GT5! The data that has been collected will be used to accurately illustrate your lap(s) within the game. Additionally you can just watch your replay or as described earlier interact/race against yourself by enabling your “ghost” car if you so desired.
Kazunori Yamauchi has truly made GT5 a game changer and has upheld GT's title of "The REAL Driving Simulator" with this innovative technology ~ Definitively ;) Nothing like this has EVER been attempted let alone implemented for release to the general public with nothing more than a PS3, a car, the GPS unit and a desire to race. The talent at Polyphony Digital just shows/confirms the level of quality, detail, & ACCURACY that the GT line of titles have strived to provide to it's followers...REAL DRIVERS & Hardcore Gamers the like.

WOW...that would be an incredible tool to study your driving technique and shave seconds off your lap times. Not sure how much the average user would use it though...
