When you first set up the ps3 it set it to whichever connection you are using. So if you used the scart/component cables then move to hdmi, you will get a black screen as teh ps3 thinks you are still using the scart cable.
You want to reset the ps3. With the res light on press hand hold the power button, it'll beep once, keep holding then it'll beep again. Release the power button. Then power the ps3 normally, it should then show up.
