i've been trying to fix my ps3 ever since i tried updating to firmware 3.50, i keep getting error 8002F147 at about 20% of the install process. i've formatted the disk numerous times, tried installing an older version of the software and most recently tried with update 3.56

PLEASE if anyone know how to fix this let me know! help will be much appreciated! its been 2 months already without my ps3! HELP!

Here's what a quick google search gave me:

* take out the hard drive
* connect hard drive to pc (running windows 7 64bit, but any windows os should work without other software)
* open up disk management - in win7 it asked me to make a master book record, so I did.
* format in NTSF - that's right, NTSF - don't use quick format
* get the rom of whatever version you were on before you upgraded - i had to search, but i found the us 3.30 rom
* copy that rom to usb drive in folders PS3 ==> UPDATE ==> put rom named PS3UPDAT.PUP here
* shut down pc, take out hd, take usb drive too
* put hd back in ps3, put usb stick in ps3
* boot ps3
* a screen will pop up. press select + start
* another screen (i think) later, press select + start
* configure your ps3 setup - done

Have you opened your ps3 before?

Also try installing via firmware in recovery mode.

aight man so you prolly have 3.41 then, regardless as long as you are not on 3.55 or higher your good.

NOW THE EXPLINATION ON HOW TO FIX THIS AND WHAT THIS ERROR IS.

1. what this error is - this error is a problem with an update of firm ware... (duh) lol

2. how to fix it - well the best way would to go into system setting and do " reset to factory defaul, then format your hard drive.

luckly for you i have some other suggestions first.

1. download the official sony 3.55 ofw, you can get it here http://www.ps3-hacks.com/file/238 or here http://downloads.exophase.com/713/ps3-firmware-355/

The second link is the one i used personally so i can vouch for that one, the first one is just an addition.

2. formate a flash drive in FAT32 and create a folder called PS3, inside that folder create a folder called UPDATE (All caps) then put the .pup file in the UPDATE folder.

3. plug in the flash drive to your ps3

4. put your ps3 in recovery mod
a. push the power button and hold it, the PS3 will beep once... keep holding it and it will turn off.
b. push and hold the power button again, the ps3 will beep once... keep holding it and it will beep 2 times, let go of the power button...... YOU ARE NOW IN RECOVERY mode

5. select the system update option on the menu and it will ask you to plug in your ps3 controller.

6. it will ask you to push start + Select at the same time and then it will search for the update in your flash drive, once it finds it it will install it, then it will reboot and finish the install.

7. check you system info to see that it shows 3.55 firmware.

8....... RE MOD YOUR PS3 using waninkoko 3.55 cfw and then install geohot 3.55 cfw

Let me know if this all make since or if you need more details on some

ALSO HERE IS THE LIST OF INSTRUCTIONS THAT BAWANGO WAS TALKING ABOUT --

http://forums.demigodthegame.com/386771

check it out, pretty much does the same thing as using your ps3 to format the hard drive, but you have to take it out and put it in the computer etc.... lot of extra work :)

Those instructions are not doing pretty much what the ps3 does when formating the drive. What those instructions are doing is removing any partitions on the drive and reinitalizing the drive with new partition. As we see from it making new mbr.

If that does not fix the issue then your system is for real in an update loop. There is only one fix for a real update loop. It will mean taking the ps3 apart. What will need to be done will not be simple and not be for most uses to try themself. Initalize the hard drive is first (I prefer Linux for this) but before putting it back in the bios will need to be cleared. That is the dirty part and most users can not do it. The info is out there. So search and read all you can before attempting that.
