I've started from ofw 3.55, created PS3/UPDATE folder on the usb stick and put the patched version of PS3UPDAT.PUP in there, plugged in the stick into ps3, went to update systems via usb and it installed fine. However, when I go under systems/system settings/system information/ firmware still only shows up as 3.55, no idea if it should show the cfw there.
Anyway, this created two directories in games, /app_home/ps3game & /install package files.
The first dir gives me an error if I go in it, the second is empty.
Next, I installed Gaia Manager 2.05(the file ending with -GAMEZ.pkd, transferred it over via usb stick, looked under /install package/ and I got the package installed.
So I've run it, put my legit blu ray of GoWIII, it showed up on the list, pressed O to copy the contents, 2 hours later it seems to complete without issues, now when I eject the blu ray the game still stays on Gaia list, but when I press it with X, Gaia seems to be loading something for 2-4 seconds, afterward kicking me to ps3 game menu, but the GoWIII icon to start the emulated blu ray is missing from the list.
Any ideas? Help would be appreciated.
Oh, I've tried this with Siren:New Translation(Chinese BR copy) and same deal, I have couple other games I can try, but I figured I'd ask while I wait for the 2 hours copy procedures to end.
(I've got the FAT 80gigs model, bought it back in 2008 if that matters)

Under system settings the version will still show 3.55, being you can see the app_home and install packages means that you are running the CFW. The app_home is used for running games off the HDD discless (this is not supported at the moment with the new Gaia) just ignore it.
First, download and install the new Gaia 2.06. Then put a PS3 game in the blu-ray drive, it will show up in the XMB. Start Gaia and select the game you want to play from the HDD. Press X and it will kick you back to the XMB. Now under the disc icon will be the game you selected in Gaia.

Ah, that works, I kept ejecting the blu ray out after copying it over. Thank you.

Just remember it can be any game in the drive in order to run the backups. There is an option in gaia to enable discless mode, if you do this most game will appear in the ps3game folder. But rememeber there are a few games that wont work without a disc, and some that will not work at all.

Sweet, I got the whole 14 games on the hard drive now and don't have to move my lazy ass out of the sofa to switch blu rays :P
but, I have a question. Can I update manually via usb stick the games with patches if they were released after 3.56? Mass Effect 2 patch that fixes the save corruption was released with 3.56, so do I need to be on that firmware to apply the patch or will sticking with 3.55 work?
