Is there a way to install Linux yet fully? Or just through usb still?
Is there a way to play ps2 backups in the ps3 slim?

A little research on this forum would have given you the answers.
Linux cannot be installed on the slim PS3, in any form, the ability to do so was removed.
Backwards compatiablity was removed from PS3's, so the answer is no.
