I tried this guide on a 4.0U, LU70 Wii with a modchip but I can't get Neogamma to work. It freezes with a green screen.
However, all the discs work via the disc channel (using the modchip).

I tried this guide with many modchipped Wiis and Neogamma always worked. This is the first time I have had a problem.

What do you think the cause of the problem is? The modchip or the LU70 Wii itself? (maybe models LU70 have something different in them like those LU39 Wiis).

I know the guide works perfect so the problem should be in one of those 2 aspects.
I know you don't want this kind of questions here but you know so much about Wiis, I thought maybe you could point me (and other users with the same problem) in the right direction (I already googled regarding this problem but I couldn't find anything useful).
Thanks.

Softmodded another wii with this guide and ended with an upside down HBC. Everthing works ok, it's just the HBC that's upside down on my screen. Any idea on how to fix?

Here is the link to what Larrylje is pointing you to:

Those that have previoulsy installed Bootmii or HBC and want to update to the latest versions only need to install over the older versions.

Those that have an Upside down Homebrew Channel can uninstall the HBC then reinstall it. If that doesn't fix it then run DOP-IOS and install IOS61 without sig/hash patch.

It says uninstall the HBC and then reinstall it. I followed the same procedure by deleting the HBC, and not I can't reinstall it. Better ask what <uninstall> means before you end up with difficulties down the road.

cheers, Punda

Hello all, Larry I would like to start off by thanking you for this well written guide. I would like to list an issue I have come across and see if there is a resolution. I have gone through the thread, and followed actions others have taken, to no fix.

LU3109.... - Started as 3.4u , Installed from beginning to end, with no errors. Current system is ios249 rev 14. Used upgrades in pack to upgrade to 4.0 then 4.1u, and 4.2 shopv18.

Bootmii installed as IOS. Homebrew installed, as well as neo gamma channel is installed. Went into Dop-IOS and patched all suggested files.

I came across the upside down HBC after installing everything. So i follwed the steps of reinstalling HBC thru hackmii. When i do , i get the same error as punda.

HackMii installer v0.6
This installer can NOT continue!
There is no known vulnerable IOS installed on this Wii.
Please note that we will not use a fakesigned IOS due to security reasons.
Look for updated version at:
http://bootmii.org
If this is already the latest version...well,suck it.

Suck It! So I ran Dop-IOS, ios36 without the patches, and upon going back to homebrew channel, the screen is right side up. I continue to the Channels/SD section to load hackmii again. I receive the same error in hackmii. I went through the steps again, this time installing with patches. Homebrew flipped upside down again. Still same error message. I used truncha to restore ios15. Installed ios36 without patches, still same hackmii error message.

I followed Pryme's advice for FM 4.0-4.2, to use NUSD to dl the ios61, and install with wad manager. Still have the upside down HBC.

So, currently I have an upside down HBC, and upon trying to uninstall/reinstall I get the Hackmii Suck It error message, With ios36 patched, and unpatched. Ios61 - Still upside down screen.

*I also recall you mentioning in 1 post that the LU39 have a hard time reading backups, and the usb HD is the better route to go. I have a LU3109.... does that put me in this class? As i keep gettin 1101 errors. I understand this is not the place for the media questions, but my question about lu39 remains. The only other thing I'd like to mention is that now when i put in OEM games, the Wii doesnt recognize them. I have to go in the Neo and launch dvd thru there. Some wont launch from there either.*

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Larry, if I messed up a step, which I believe I did due to problems seeing my tv screen from my computer :), can I redo the softmod and follow the steps more closely? Is this what you meant by read guide more carefully?

I originally posted this as a separate post but not receiving any help. It's related to softmodding with this guide I suppose.

Hello all,
I made the mistake of reformatting wii system memory on my softmodded wii. Now I lost my HBC and Neogamma loader. I tried to reinstall with Larry's guide but it didn't work due to IOS files being detected on my Wii.
I'm sure I'm not the first to have done this, can someone help me out with a link or a solution to getting it back?

Thank you for your time.

here the fix guy if you have 4.2 and want your HBC back just follow !!!

Download BannerBomb V2 and Dop-IOS Mod v6.
Put on the SD CARD.
Run Dop-ios (through Banner Bomb v2).
Choose and load IOS 250.
then go on IOS36
press the ( - ) on the wii remote
once it finish instaling, the old v1042
Put in the Sd Card and launch boot.elf from the hackmii.
and should work perfectly!!

Okay, just follow my instructions:

Download Dop-IOS MOD, and once you download it, extract it. Take the boot.dol file, and drag it to the root of your SD card. If there already is a boot.dol/boot.elf on the root of your SD card, remove it.

Download Bannerbomb v2, and put the private folder on the root of your SD card. If you already have a private on the root of the SD card, temporarily rename it to "privateold", or something.

Launch Bannerbomb on your wii by going to the SD card menu, and Dop-IOS MOD should load. .

I just want some clarification. I currently have softmodded wii with 4.0u, Homebrew channel and neogamma. Should I simply follow the guide from the beginning even it is re-installing items I already have? Or should I start somewhere mid-stream of the guide? I think I should start from the beginning but I'm not 100% sure.

This worked for me..instructions from Larry

Start at the cIOS38_rev14 section.

If you want to update/install the Homebrew Channel/Bootmii/DVDx then follow that section as well. Since it is softmoded already you don't have to do the Downgrade IOS15/Patch IOS60/Restore IOS15 section of the guide.

I had a 3.4U modded wii that I wanted to update the softmod.

Read the guide more carefully and you will get your answer.

This is basically my situation with both the upside down HBC and the deleted HBC by formatting system memory. I tried reinstalling the HBC as was explained by Larry many posts back but end up with the same error as Punda and Spudshady. I havn't touched the upside down HBC wii yet as it still works.

INSTRUCTIONS FROM LARRY

"Drag the boot.elf that is at the root of the SD card to your PC (Make sure it was transfered to your PC) then delete it from the SD card.

Now on the SD card go to the apps>hbc_dopios_v8 folder and COPY the boot.elf from that directory to the root of the SD card (Make sure you copy it so it stays in the hbc_dopios_v8 folder as well).

Now follow the instructions as you would to boot the hackmii installer. This should boot DOP-IOS so you can install IOS36 without the sig/hash Identify patch.

After you install IOS36 without the patches then you can delete the boot.elf from the root of the SD Card and drag the boot.elf (hackmii installer that you draged to the PC) back to the root of the SD card.

Now run the hackmii installer again. After installing HBC run DOP-IOS again and patch IOS36 again like it previously was."

a few problems I had with these instructions:
1. I had boot.dol in my apps>hbc_dopios_v8 folder. I renamed to boot.elf and moved to the root as instructed.
2. Booted it through sd channel and pressed a after each string of text for ios 36. Don't know if this installed without the sig/hash identify patch, although my only option was to press a any other button will abort and it went through its normal 1 to 15 deal.
3. Last step went as described but get the error that Punda and Spudshady got.

I used your previous guide to install hbc on a 4.1 console. I have not used this updated version yet. I'm interested in getting wii shop 4.2 v18. Can I update to it using the hbc from your previous 4.1 guide or should I install everything from this new guide and then update wii shop?

Also do all games play in 4.1 or do you have to go to 4.2 to play some? I ask because some games require an update and I'm usually afraid to install those.

i was in the same boat as you mate, having already followed a previous guide from about 2 months ago. everything ran smoothly that time and i was able to do everything that it was supposed to...

BUT, i just re-ran through the entire guide again, from start to finish. everything appeared to be going fine again, and i got to the IOS60Patched: section. when i completed that part, i rebooted and got the black screen of death, saying my 'system files are corrupted'.

now i'm stuck at the screen... :(

i can access the preloader, but i don't have a gamecube controller to navigate through the options.

does anyone have any ideas as to why this error message came up?

Just follow the Shop CHannel v18 section.

Read through past post on how to fix the corrupt systems files after installing IOS60Patched when preloader is already installed. Also you don't need a GC controller for Preloader.

Are you sure you are talking about Preloader? You can use the Wiimote to navigate through Preloader.

Follow guide to the T but left out option stuff (DVDx, IOS60Patched, and DOP-IOS) I have NTSC WII running 3.3u. After completing steps I am still not able to play most patched new games unless I use NeoGamma R7. All game backups work in with NeoGamma loader but the are all in black in white. I have not problem using NeoGamma but I would need a fix to the black and white issue. I have read alot of threads about downgrading to 3.2??? I have know of 2 NTSC WII's running 3.2 and they are able to play all games old and new without homebrew or softmods. Any suggestions???

This guide is awesome I was able to follow without any major problems. Thanks for your help.

Black and white games has nothing to do with firmware # it is due to playing a PAL game on a NTSC system. To fix this you can Force NTSC in NeoGamma or download the NTSC versions of the game.

Forgot to mention I have wii-clip installed. Trying to do as little as possible with soft mods. I have tried the basic things that I have found on afterdawn (Burn at 4x, make sure its NTSC, try and download another iso) I thought that the mod chip would let me play games without having to change anything else. I am able to play lots of backed up games but everything that has come out in the past couple of months locks WII up with black or green screen.

This is not a hardmod guide it is a softmod guide. We don't need a mix of both. So please start a new thread with this question.
