I want advice in purchasing blank DVD's for burning Wii and GameCube games. Site recommendations would be good and which type and brand.
I recently unsuccessfully burned the Xenoblade Chronicles single layer game and Baten Kaitos: Origins. My Wii was purchased in March 2008 and is D2C and is updated to 3.1 with the Wasabi Zero modchip. I am thinking of updating my Wii and I recall that later update does not allow DVD+Rs.
Baten Kaitos: Origins played with 2 interruption for read disk error until I reached the battle "Lord of the Lava Caves" at this point I could not get the disk read no matter how many times I injected and inserted. My purchased copy came in the mail the following morning and played perfectly so it is not my laser.
Xenoblade Chronicles. The game would not play from the menu or from Gecko OS. It will play via NeoGamma. I am thinking that burning the game on different media might make a difference.

The drive is a Matshita and ImgBurn does not support booktype for this manufacturer.
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...289&Tpk=Ihas124
that drive is the one i have, i have flashed it and bitsetting/booktype works fine.
any drive based off of one of the NEC Chips or optiarc Chips listed here: http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/ will work.
otherwise theres not much else you can do.

I have followed you as far as buy the drive for $20. Is is possible to buy a case for that drive which will let me use it as a peripheral? on a Toshiba Satellite?

yes there are older external devices that accept the 5.25 sized drives. whether they still make them anymore I'm not sure. might try ebay.

New Toy! My Liteon arrived today. I get a monkey score of 10/10 for assembly.
The new copy which I burned of Baten Kaitos works fine when I load the game back at the "Lord of the Lava Caves." I wanted to put the Liteon through its paces before screwing the face place down all the way so I burned some movies and played them with Windows Media Players but it took me hours to update from 9 to 11. wmp9 was bad news and I am glad that it is gone.
I am still having trouble with Xenoblade Chronicles. Does anyone need coasters?
I am trying to burn either the scrubbed single layer version or the dual layer version. NeoGamma cannot read the dual layer version either. 2084960 is the layer break that I used.
BTW When Eternal Wings and the Lost Ocean & Origins are played in sequence the story is awesome.
******* previous part of the post *******
Actually, I am going to try burning -R's instead. The reflectivity is closer to that of the regular ones --- what I have read. However, for the price I will follow your suggestion. A case will double the price but newegg has several sata to usb for 5.25
