D2pro update problems and 4.2e

A couple of problems.
My wife connected the wii to the new wirless we have yesterday (to play Mario kart online) and when it asked to update she said yes...
So now its running 4.2e and i cannot get SSBB to run where before my backup ran perfectly!?
So as i have a D2pro i downloaded the latest DVD with a hope that an update on the chip would get around the problem, only the utility says it can not find a D2Pro chip?
I've ripped the wii apart and checked that it is a D2pro (thought i might have gone mad). All i know is it looks like one and the site i bought it from said it was a d2pro, and its worked up till now like a d2pro (running SSBB brawl with no uodates etc).
So 2 questions:
is the 4.2e going to be a problem going forward..
and whats going on with my chip/updateing it??
