fce ultra gx 3.2.3 not loading certain roms

#1 22 Dec 2010 @ 19:34
Hopefully you guys can help me out with this or point me the right direction.

So far I have found 3 NES roms, that when I try to load them in fce it will get stuck with the whitish transparent screen and just sit there and not load the game. The music is still playing for fce.

The wii mote hand/cursor will still come up on screen and when I hold the power button on the remote, the screen will go black but the fce in-channel music will still play and the wii will not turn off. The only way to get the wii off at this point is to hold the power button on the console for 10 or so seconds.

The 3 roms so far are Abadox, Jackal, and Mega Man 3

I have tried different roms from multiple sources and this does not fix it. All the roms run fine on my PC with nesticle or nestopia.

I have tried multiple versions of FCE Ultra GX with no luck with both zipped and unzipped roms. Also I have both tried loading the FCE channel with both the installed channel and from the homebrew channel as well.

All the games are being loaded off of an external drive. Everything else seems to be loading fine. All of my cIOS are updated using Pimp My Wii with whatever default settings are selected.

All of the roms have the .nes extension.

Any thought? Thanks

forget pimp my wii, and use dop-mii 14.5 to manually install IOS58. then download a clean FCE 3.2.3 from the official site.

if it doesn't load from the hard drive, try loading from the SD card.

Good call! I put fce onto an SD and loaded it through the hombrew channel and Jackal came right up so I am assuming the others will work.

I have a 2.5 inch 70 gig hitachi I am using that I had laying around. 5 gig fat partition, the rest wbfs. I suppose I will look into different hard drives at this point.

Thanks!

at least you ruled out that the games work. but before investing in a new drive and enclosure, i'd make sure that the problem really is the drive.

-always use the bottom usb port (left port when vertically standing)
-have a clean IOS58 (a lot of homebrew is switching to IOS58)
-have the latest version of the app you're using

i'm just very fortunate that everything is working with my hard drive and enclosure setup. i've only had one problem, but that was fixed by switching from usbloaderGX to configurable usb loader.

I have been using the correct USB port otherwise it would not work =P

I did use dop-mii 14.5 and installed a clean 058

Other games/roms (genplus, snes9x gx, wii64, USB loader gx run fine with seemingly no issues) work fine off of the HDD, it's just that I am coming across a few roms that cause the issue listed above....kinda funky.

I have been wanting to upgrade to a bigger drive anyway as this one is almost maxed out....This will just be my excuse =)

or it could be FCE itself. i also use snes9xGX, and that's been working extremely well. all games that i've thrown at it play, no problems.

and can't argue if you need a bigger drive. i'd say 320GB is the sweet spot. it's what i have and a 32GB FAT32 partition is way more than enough, but it's nice having that headroom. i do store all of the NAND backups of the wii's i have softmodded on there, so they're in a convenient place.

I only have 5 gigs and want to put on some 64 games but am almost out of room. I only have about 4 gigs left on the wbfs partition =(

fce works fine off the drive with 90 percent of the roms I have tried.

I am going to my cousins house tomorrow and I am going to put the stuff on his external drive and see what happens. That should pretty much solve the puzzle if Jackal loads up fine on his drive.

Thanks again and have a Merry Christmas!
