Hello I have decided to write a mini guide for people who want to buy a wiikey2 + wiiclip v14. I have seen alot of unanswered questions around most of the wii-scene forums and have decided to provide some help.

First of all before buying anything find out your Wii Drive chip model. The best way is to open up your wii and look at it directly, as this is 100%. Once you know your model you should choose the modchip that works with your wii. Wiikey2 works with all Wiis except D3 and D3-2 Wiis. For these Wiis you will need to buy wiikey Fusion or a similar chip.

If you have a D2A/D2B/DMS Wii and have a steady hand I suggest you solder the wiikey2 onto your wii and not use the wii-clip. this is because socketed incorrectly and unevenly, the wii-clip can easily damage your drive chip IC legs during installation. Also a soldered connection will always be more reliable than a contact connection, which is the principle on which the wii-clip works.

If you decide to buy a wii-clip you should go to www.wii-clip.com and buy only from the sites listed on their safe list. Some sites sell fake wii-clips which will almost always DAMAGE YOUR WII!

On most sites the wiikey2 and wii-clip come presoldered to each other. This makes life easier as you dont need to solder anytihng yourself at all. However you must be careful to choose your wii drive from the drop down box or you will be shipped a wiiclip with wrong points soldered. This has happened to me and it was very annoying.

However there is a solution without shipping it back: If you have a D2A/D2B/DMS wii and you received a D2C/D2E wii-clip+wiikey2, what you must do is take a small pair of scissors, like nail trimming scissors and carefully cut the RED Wii-clip PCB Board, cutting the connections D, E, F, and G, as shown in the picture below:

Be careful not to cut into the C track. You need to cut the PCB because after desoldering the points myself they still made contact with the clip and my drive would stay dead until the clip was removed. An exacto-knife or something similar would work well too. However again be CAREFUL NOT TO CUT TRACK C!

Once you install the wii-clip following installation instructions, do not close your wii. Instead connect the drive up and test your wii out before closing it up. The first disc you should insert is an original disc from your own region (wii sports works). This will set the wiikey2 to your region and allow it to handle games properly. Then insert a backup. if it works then you have done everything correctly.

Two backups I tried did not work: these were metroid prime trilogy and Super Smash Bros brawl shrunk to a single layer disc. Upon trying a double layer version of the same game the discs started no problem. Im not sure if this is a problem with the wiikeys firmware or not, because they did work on NeoGamma (softmod). If anyone has any info on this I would like to hear.

If you have any questions about installation please post here and I will try to answer.
